Boston area directions
Hi all! I'm headed down to Washington, DC for the new year and, being new to Boston, I'm wondering what is the best way to get down there?
I wasn't able to make it to the NE meet back in July, but I found the post. Mapquest says to go 90 to 84 to 91 to 95. But wouldn't going down 95 through Providence be faster? What route did everyone take around Boston when you went to the meet?
Any help would be most appreciated as I'm not looking forward to the 8 hr ride.

OKay, I-95 sucks! Avoid it as much as possible. Look at a map and try to take I-84 as far south as you can. It'll be a slightly longer drive, but it'll be nice and calm with little to no tolls.

Actually, I will be travelling tonight. I'm leaving at midnight in order to avoid traffic. Assuming taffic will not be a problem, will 95 be faster through Providence and CT?

When I go towards that area, I take 90 to 84 to 91 to 95, if I'm heading towards bridgeport which is on 95...From there, 95 will eventually merge onto the NJ turnpike if I remember correctly, and from there I can't remember off hand. But taking 95 can be a pain - I just came back from Long Island from Bridgeport and it was clear the whole way up, and the whole way back. If you're leaving past rush hour, it'll be just as easy.
Last time I took a trip to D.C., I slept the night early and woke up at 1am to make the run in the morning - absolutely no traffic lol - depending on when you want to pull in, it can either be good or bad. I recommend hitting 84 instead of popping on 95 directly. There's heavy construction from New London to Bridgeport.
Wish I could give you more, but that's all I got. Be prepared for a very long trip too lol - was no picnic for me.

Thanks for the construction update, TwilightX. Luckily, I'm driving with my g/f so we can trade off.
While I'm down there, I hope I get to drive my bro's WRX. Waaaa hoooooooooooooo!

this is what you need to do if you havent left yet.
take 90 west to 84 south. 84 aaaaaaaaaaall the way to 684 (south or west) (its in NY state). dont get on 91 and dont get on 95 while in CT or MA or RI.
from 684 get on 287 west. 287 to 87 and cross the tappan zee bridge. then take exit 14a to the garden state parkway. go on the GSP for a while and then get on the NJ turnpike from the GSP. you have a few opportunities to do this, but you should really do it when youre getting close to new brunswick (its like exit 129 or something). from there you just take 95 south all the way to WDC. i really did not have a problem getting there when i went to the M-A meet this past summer.
make sure you have directions when youre in the DC area, it can get tricky with the 95 donut that goes around the city.
