These directions assume you at least know how to get onto I-95.
Meeting Spot:
-I'll be here by 8:30am. We should leave around 9. That gives us 5 hours to make it down to the meet. That includes some extra time for breaks and traffic.
-When you hit CT, stay on I-95 south. After Exit 41 there is a rest stop with a gas station and a McDonald's. This is the Orange/Milford line.
You have to merge into the newly opened lane on the right to get into the rest stop. You'll see the big parking lot, just pull in.
To the meet:
We are taking I-95 South basically all the way down. So this is just what to look out for.
-The NY border is only 30 minutes from the rest stop. Exit numbers start at 21-22.
-Around Exit 16 you see a toll booths and the road curves, they are for the Northbound side of the highway, you don't have to pay until you come back. (it's only $1)
-Around Exit 14 is where there are usually police on the roads. Welcome to the Bronx.
-There is road construction going on in the Bronx. It's easier and faster to stay in the middle or right lane.
Around Exit 8, you have to be in those lanes anyway.
-At exit 7 the road splits. Stay in the RIGHT LANE to stay on 95 SOUTH. It'll look like a new highway. After a 1/4 MILE, we have to get off another "exit". It's just staying on 95. Once you get onto that "onramp" get into the left lane, and keep cutting over to the left if you can. (it just avoids merging traffic). This is 95 SOUTH AKA The Cross-Bronx Expressway.
-Just for the record, this road sucks. Watch for potholes and debris on the road.
-We might hit traffic here, we might not... because of the time, I would say it shouldn't be that bad.
-We have to cross the George Washington Bridge. It's easier to take the upper level. So that means stay in the LEFT LANE. You don't have to pay a toll going this way, but you will on the way back ($6).
-Welcome to New Jersey.
-After the bridge, we should all be in the LEFT LANE. You will see signs for I-95 in this lane anyway. We are taking I-95 South EXPRESS.
-Once we have merged onto that part, we get into the right lane. (There are only two lanes). We will have to get on an on-ramp to I-95. It starts off as two lanes in, but it's really one, it merges after 500 feet. Just stay in the lane we are in. It's going to merge again eventually into I-95.
-At exit 16... I-95 turns into the New Jersey Turnpike (leave it to Jersey to confuse people). You have to stay to the left to get on.
-A toll both will come up... grab a ticket, you don't have to pay yet.
After all of that, it's just smooth driving down. Those directions just get you through all of the action you'll be seeing for a while. They are pretty detailed, but it's really simple.
-For the rest of the way, we just stay on I-95 south to Maryland exit 64-b (I-695 west).
-Go about 10 miles and take exit 23 for Falls Road north. Immediately proceed to the left lane.
-Make a left at the first traffic light onto Falls Road south, and proceed to the park entrance just ahead on the right (marked by park sign).
Somewhere along the way in southern NJ, there is going to be a rest stop. I don't know where that is yet, but I'll let you know when I know.

Great directions! Just remember to update your post with the finalized version when you know about that rest stop and what not.
So... How many rest stops will there be? How many more people will we pick up along the way?
Also, if you have them, get your GMRS/FRS radios ready.
Cheaper than a cell phone since we'll probably incur roaming charges. I have one. Who else has one?

For one meeting place, the Connecticut Welcome Center might be a good place to meet up before you get to NY. Then get some of the NY, Norther Jersey peeps at a specific rest stop on the the NJ Turnpike.

Heyyyyy, come on now.
Anyway, rob may be right, the GSP is more of a straight shot down through Jersey, BUT, you will hit TONS of jersey shore traffic as you get more and more south. And its the absolute worst. Either way, factor in that you will hit lots of beach traffic in jersey if its a nice day. And, also, have fun paying the tolls, our state needs it.
By the way, as you fools are heading south through here, Ill be goin north to Cape Cod for two weeks. Ill honk if i see ya on the road.

Yeah, but on the GSP, yopu have to deal with tons of toll booths and **** right? All the bullshit for just taking 95 is in NY. Easy to deal with, and not a single toll to pay until you reach southern Jersey.

Oh yeah, for the toll booths... Does Fast Lane work down there? I had a map that said that it would, but I need confirmation. The map said that it works anywhere they have SpeedPass. So... Does everyone have a FastLane or SpeedPass transponder?

Dewd, you have full coilovers, but you don't have a FastLane transponder or a two-way radio... Weird. Actually, no... I getcha.

and BTW, 95 is a toll road in NJ also, so all the toll booths on the GSP actually end up being cheaper if you get on 95 from GSP. trust me, thats how i go to rutgers. plus the GSP is just a nicer drive than the turnpike (95).
Yea the turnpike is the most un-scenic drive ever. If you've ever watched the opening sequence of Sopranos, well, thats the turnpike.
anyhoo, yea your fastlane works down here i assume cause mine works up there in MA.

Good job putting the meet-up spot together. I just added it to the checkpoints section on the Meet's website. Hopefully this will help raise awareness! I also have maps up there for you guys

I'm gonna say that taking the turnpike is your best bet. I know others say different. But, I think that the times you guys are leaving at, you'll be fine going over the cross-bronxs. I also know that it does take longer to take the Parkway even if there is traffic the other way. It's still up to you.
Just my suggestion. Stick with the turnpike.

I don't think it will be a bad to caravan down together. Pick a toll that is close to the breakdown lane so that peole can pull over as they go through. I think 95 would be easiest to keep you guys together.
Alex, are you planning on picking up the Jersey and Philly peeps on your way down??

I was only planning for the NE people. If you or Steph or anybody comes up with meeting spots along the way, I have no problem with doing that. The LI people too. I have 5 hours open right now to make it to Baltimore. That should take care of traffic and all and leave me maybe a half hour for extra stops. I have the shortest drive out of all of the NE. So if people want to leave earlier to meet up with other people, that's fine with me. I'd leave at 5am for all I care lol. (I'd probably enjoy that).
It doesn't matter what time we meet as long as we leave at or before nine. If you guys don't feel like leaving the day of, I am free to go down the night before, just not too early (before 9PM) cuz it's my friends birthday. If anybody wants to do this, let me know. It would probably be easier than driving in the morning because some of you people gotta leave your houses around 6am. If anybody can't do it, then forget it. It's just an idea I've had floating around.

Well how bout you guys do this. The NE people are meeting in Milford before they head down. There are a few LI guys coming down together and there are few Philly/Southern Jersey guys. So the NE people get their caravan together and meet up with the LI guys and the Philly guys at either the Delaware Rest stop or the Maryland House Rest stop. That way you can all caravan down from there, which is only about an hour drive. Let me know what you guys think?
The NE people include
Grey
Mystic3030
quickofftheline
sivikchik
smokie2k2lx
madwheel
TwilightX
noname
The Long Island people include
hankscorpio
osofast2001
chenz
boiler_room
Alleyesonme
The North Jersey People Include
form3hide
LazyDog01
LC
XxSoVeReiGNxX
The Southern Jersey/Philly people include
2k1civicExCoupe
AzNmiKex215
FallenAngel
mike0404
and possibly Beatboxed
Now I am assuming
taz and acekicker will be coming together.
lownslocvc will be travelling alone or find a way to meet up with some group.
Distinctive will either come by himself or meet up with the NOVA people.
EternalVTEC and Neo will either come down together or seperately.
the Baltimore people will find their own way there since they are coming from different parts of the state
Everyone else is pretty much in the NOVA/Southern MD area and will meet up with Mex at a later designated checkpoint.

We can meet up with anybody that is on a reststop on 95 from CT to MD without killing time. (provided they are in the area) As it is now without extra stops to meet people, we should make it to the meet around 1-1:30pm. If you guys want to leave a little earlier let me know.
As it is right now, I've included around an hour for traffic and stops.

I just thought i'd add, I dont want to drive over 80-85 MPH.....a line of 20+ civics driving at high speeds and trying to race each other (don't kid yourselves, I know its gonna happen) is a cop magnet, and I cant afford a ticket. So if we are gonna be going any faster than that i'll ride along with someone.
