New Engine

Hey guys, first post on these forums.
I will soon be getting my first car which will be a 99' Honda Civic Ex Coupe.
Well what are some engines that i should be looking at?
A list of good-to-best would be very helpful!

It has a 4 cyl 1.6L/97 CID engine.. just making sure but, it is a vtec? right?

Re: New Engine

if it is the stock engine it will be a d16y8 16 valve sohc vtec.

and the best of course in my opinion is a k swap but it really depends on how much money you'd be willing to spend on a new engine.
K series- k24a2
and what you would like to do with the motor for instance the b18c1 is a great engine, its what i currently have in my ek now, but a b18c5 comes factory with more power and better internals as well as trans. you would spend a good amount more for the type-r(c5) but if you were going turbo i would choose the b18c1.
- h series using a h22a(4) and using a h2b kit to use a bseries transmission but you risk scrapping your lower oil pan.
- b20vtec which put down more torque. same concept as ls-v but using a b20 block.
- ls-vtec taking a ls(b18b1) block and swapping a vtec head onto it and adding oil lines for vtec. the b16a2 head is most comonly used but any b series vtec head will work.
-there is also f series but i have no experience with them

if you are going to go with b20 or ls-v you will have to make sure you build it correctly the first time.. i have seen many unreliable builds when you cheap out.

so for me best to worst...
-k24a2 or k20z1,a2 or 24 block with 20a2 head
-h22a4
-b18c5
-b18c1
-b20 vtec
-b16a2
-ls-vtec
-d series or f series

that is all just my opinion and im sure many will argue with me but see what other people have to say as well and search this because there is many sources on just this forum alone as well as honda-tech.com
