Intake: Ram air VS. Cold air?
Intake: Ram air VS. Cold air?
I was told that Ram increases acceleration
and Cold increases top speed.
True or false?
Ps. if thats the case im looking to buy ram air intake for my 1999 Honda Civic EX (manual) suggestions on any brands and prices?

Neither will make a very noticeable difference, maybe a tiny bit on the 0-60. In theory the cold air intake would give more power because its reaching down to the colder, more dense air.
Re: Intake: Ram air VS. Cold air?
Ram air will help with the top end of the car using the higher air pressure to "ram" air into the motor. On motorcycles it doesn't really come into play till over 100mph, cars maybe lower, but it won't do much on a civic at 80.
Now if your talking a land speed racer at 250+ trying to reset the world record it might give the 1% needed for the record.
Cold air can add i guess 3 hp or so. It grabs the cool air from the front of the car, helpful at lower speeds when the air in the engine bay is stagnant. IMHO $250+ to buy one is not a lot of return on my cash. I've gotten them and they sound cool and work when many other things are going to be done to the car. They are an easy mod and be a fun bit of bling to a new car guy.
Goodluck!

I'm completely new to mods, and just about anything to cars for that matter. But i have also seen that stated on some of the forums by a well known poster i believe Gearbox. So sorry for the questions i just wanna know whats right and if its worth it.

Re: Intake: Ram air VS. Cold air?
90% of people say they noticed no difference in power on our cars. It does make the car sound better though. "worth it" depends on the person.
Re: Intake: Ram air VS. Cold air?
As the car is moving engine bay temps air wise won't be too high...so the intake tubes won't really get that warm. The air zooming down the intake isn't in there hanging around so it won't pick up too much heat off the tube. Each RPM of the motor is going to pass about 1.5liters or air or so like i said it isn't in there long and won't pick up too much heat. It will be breathing air from out front Which is cooler.
Intakes sound cool like I said and they are an easy mod. Get one and report back !!
