Any Ideas?

hey everyone, a few months ago i purchased my first honda, a 99 civic hx. im new to the whole honda scene and im still learning about my hondas and my car. i civic currently gets around 26-28 MPG. i would like to see this number be closer to 35 if possible. besides changing my driving habits, does anybody have any suggestions on how or what i can do to see this goal MPG? ive heard intake and headers, but i would like to know what you all think. thank you for your time.

Re: Any Ideas?

pretty much any 'mod' you do to your car will give you less mpg and more hp. that goal is only realistic if you drive entirely hwy miles and have a perfectly maintained car and never drive it above 3000 rpm. I get 35 mpg consistently. Other then that when my tires were really over inflated I was getting closer to 38 - 40 mpg. No joke.

LOL, sorry I wasn't recommending over inflating your tires but it is true. Mythbusters even did an episode on it.

Re: Any Ideas?

Pump up the tires.
Fill the gas tank, jump on the highway.
Go a rock steady 55 MPH for 300 miles.
Stop and fill the tank again.
Calculate your mileage.
Gloat.

My 12 civic is rated at 29/39. I got it to 52.3 MPG by going a steady 55 MPH for a really long time. Mileage dropped like a rock as soon as I got into stop and go traffic.

It's cold here, my usual in-town mileage went from 27.8 to 25.5ish. I don't let the car sit and idle to warm up, either.

Ooh! Ooh!

High quality fuel with the proper octane rating, not cheapo no-name stuff you get at the beer and lottery convenience store on the corner in the hood.

Avoid alcohol/ethanol, if possible.
