my battery was pretty easy, i used rsx-s mounts, along with the mounting brackets out of an rsx-s ( took out the civic mounting brackets for them to fit, welded/bolted the rsx-s ones in), along with rsx- radiator, overflow, fans....i didn't use older honda parts, wanted it to be either 2001 civic, or 2002 rsx-s

whoa i didn't even see the Toda package! how is it? gains noticeable? i was thinking about saving up for that after i get the k20a intake manifold.
scraching head? K20A2 is the Type S engine? I have a 2001 Civic EX 5 Speed what should i expect to pay to get mine done, total cost??? that way i know what i need to save up or if i should put my arm up on ebay now. thanks guys. P.S. any one know who could do this in noth cali (408)?
hell yes! those are sweet! k20a2 is the rsx-s engine.
toda package is great...i personally can feel the difference, but don't have any dyno's to back it up. i have lost once while racing....and sadly it was to a turbo charged cavalier...man *hangs head*...but what can i do.
Hawk has it down when it comes to misc. parts...those are the killers. i made about 2 trips a week to honda to get things...

K20A-R!!!
dude! JDMHONDA.COM has a K20A-R 220hp w/LSD 6 spd tranny. Anyway this would ever pass smog in Cali from what i was readin on there site is that if the smog check guy doesnt find the engine in his book it doesnt pass! that hella sucks. but it seam like this would be the kick in the *** my civic needs. swap this engine and you get 93hp more with way more room for a build up, and tons more support. but wait when the hell is the RSX Type R coming to the US? maybe i should use the money for a down payment on that?

Anything over 550HP on engine that is not factory spec'd to produce so, will not last long. Too much stress on chasis and other parts. Built cars with that kind of power are show cars or strictly short weekend trips/rides. Type S engine is not bulletproof like Supra's engines. And even those Supra's that you see in mag's. that are pushing that kind of power, you dont see them out on street driving everyday. And i really doubt that from 300HP you can jump to 500 or 700 with just built internals. I think Jackson came out with supercharger (one of those companys) for RSX and, and numbers with that are around 250-260. Yea, you can build Type S engine im sure better then D17 but then again, parts are not exectly priced like they would be for D17, so you gotta take that in consideration also. Honestly, like i stated before, if you have, invest those 10'gs in SOHC. There is nothing like built motor, power on tap.
Just, dont confuse your Civics with Ferrari Enzo's. 700hp......get real.

All you really have to do is get a "performace" torque convertor so the clutch plates don't start slipping on it. That's the only real problem you'll really need to worry about, other than getting a transmission cooler because that fluid is going to get hot.
Also, think about it this way - with an AT, you're pretty much running constant boost. You'll always be at WOT once you mash the peddle. With a MT, you have to take your foot off the gas and you loose all the boost pressure you just built up. Not such the case with AT. Main reason guys like MT is cause they like to hear the BOV pop between shifts. If you want a true sleeper, run an AT with turbo.
And yes, I have an AT and I am planning on getting a turbo sometime and I'll run it at 'safe levels' until the warranty is up and I rebuild the motor with better internals. There's nothing wrong with the D17, other then the ECU. That's what's really holding us back. Hopefully Hondata will come out with a flash for it or you could always go with the AEM EMS or some other piggyback ECU.
So, in the end, don't look at your AT being as big of a problem as you thought. You'll actually be better off.
Also, one thing to remember is that they found that the FI AT Supra was quicker than the FI MT Supra.

not confusing in any way...but seriously...i would rather have something like a civic pushing 300 to 350 at the wheels, and be able to walk all over a lot of vehicles, and be able to keep up with many more...
i'd rather have something like a honda pushing those numbers that i had to work to get, versus something that has it stock......just my opinion....

I cant wait to get mine on the roll. My motor should be here
this upcoming week. ALong with other parts im gonna order.
Hey whitecivic with the battery mounted there is there still room
for the CAI from an Si. Otherwise I prob mount it in the trunk. How much
did you get urs done for. Im not getting the best price in the world, but im gonna love my car when it is done.

I think that everybody on the board would be able to have one in 5 years.
I'm going to save $60/paycheck, so that's $120/month.
Then in 5 years, I'll have $7200 and my D17A2 will be very worn down so I won't feel as bad replacing it. With the amount of daily driving I do, I can approximate 150,000 miles when I have the money available. So instead of doing a $200+ tune up, I can just swap out the entire thing.
I'm not a financial advisor or anything, but I'd just personally recommend that people take it slow. I know that I want to be the 1st person in the Puget Sound to have a hybrid, but at the same time I gotta buy a house, go to Tokyo (again), buy furniture, go out to eat, buy manga/anime, clothes and save for my next car. $30/week isn't going to put a crimp in my lifestyle and that's about 1.5hrs of OT.

I'm saving up for a Lexus IS300 and I'm going to be putting down $60k for a house.
I'm going to keep my Civic to mod it, but I'm not looking to concentrate my money for short term projects (ie: $500/month for XXmonths)... I'm just going to spread it all out over 5 years.
By 2008 the K20A2 or K20A (R) would be into the 240s at the wheels N/A with state of the art computer tuning, valves, rods, pistons, and tuners would have enough experience as well as every company making parts.
Until then, my 127HP will do me just fine. I'll refine my driving technique and enjoy my 33mpg.
By then the insurance on the Civic will be low and I'll make more than what I do now so it's a win/win situation.

Looking at my current situation, I'm going to be doing the same as what artychris is doing. Each paycheck, I take what I need for me to survive until my next paycheck. Most of it goes to bills and whatever is left over (which is usually between $100-$150) I put it in my savings. So I'm looking at a few years or so until this swap is possible. But I'm not down about it... I can wait... I'm gonna have to anyway.

Well said, you two. I figure I will probably have a different car in 5 years. Mine will be paid off next year. I am so tempted to take out a loan to do a swap. If I found a good deal on an Engine, Trans, ECU, subframe, axles, immobilizer, and whatever else I'm forgetting I would probably try it.
i cannot wait... oh yeah, if you hook up the k20a, do we lose air conditioning or cruise control or something...
cuz some del sol around here said i would and he said he sacrificed his power steering... that's gay as hell

Here's another idea .. instead of saving up for the next 5 years to swap motors, just wait until a decent credit card application comes in the mail (I get at least one every day - no exageration) and apply for it. Then depending on the credit line they give you, you should be able to put most of the motor and parts on 1 or 2 credit cards. Yeah, so they're maxed out - now all you do is take that $100 a month you were saving and apply it to paying off the card(s) so that way you can have the engine now instead of when the next civic body style is out and we have the "old model" ...
That's what I'll probably do, because I'm kind of an impatient idiot. I'm figuring about this time next year, which should make the swap less expensive and a lot of the dificulties in doing the swap will have been tweaked. And I should have about 50-60K miles on my D17 by then.
I just gotta stop wasting my money on stupid sh¡t I don't need. I'm the world's worst impulse shopper ...

stlvtec......i honestly don't know either way if the civic si cai would work, in theory i would say yes, but looking in my engine bay...i might have to say no....so until i decide to switch, sorry man. as far as cost to do my swap, nothing, with help from my girlfriends dad, him and i did the entire swap in his garage.....
blue.....as far as difficulties for the swap, only one i encountered was the wiring (if you don't include that i used an rsx-s radiator, overflow, fans...)....and basically once one person was able to figure out it (like hasport) then everyone has access to it......
salokod......why would you lose the a/c and ps? i still have mine.........only reason i might of lost my ps was due too the hood...put on a fiberimages oe cf hood, and problem solved.....

BlueFlame, don't temp me like that! Haha! j/k. I was thinking of doing that, but wasn't sure if it was a good idea. I'm very impatient as well. The more I look at whitevics' pics of his swap, the sooner I want to get the engine and the parts I need for the swap.
whitevic and Hawk... I hope you guys don't mind all the PM's I'll be sending you when I have a question about the swap or the parts I need. Haha!

it's a good idea but there's a little detail that can make a big difference and it is interest. An excellent rate would be about 1% above prime which is approximately (I haven't checked in 4 months so I'm guessing) 13.5%. Those credit cards with an introductory interest rate of 0-2.9% usually only lasts for a limited time on most credit cards.
So if the total amount for the swap including parts and labor came to $7500 based on 2.9% annual interest, then you're looking to spend $18.13/month in interest charges and that's not bad. But let's say the introductory period runs out and you revert back to prime+1%, then your interest is going to shoot up to approximately $84.38/month in interest charges! Just keep in mind that all these figures are based soley off the $7500 and with good payments it should be lower considering the balance would be lower than $7500.
But some cards rip you off and jack you for 18 or 19%+ interest!!! So if it was 19%, then you're looking at $118.75/month!!! And if it accrues for 1 year without payment then that's approximately $1425.00. I say approximately because when interest charges are tacked on the balance, it tends to compound giving you a slightly higher interest balance every month.
But for this exercise (I currently have 13.5%), I would like to keep my $84.38 for...
1. Coffee... $60/month ($2/day)
2. Comic books/magazines... $25/month
