Should I go all out with my D17 SOHC?? N/A
Should I go all out with my D17 SOHC?? N/A
Alright..
I just got my 2k2 civic coupe ex a couple of months ago.
Im thinking about K20A2 swap in a couple of years (refer to the latest Honda Tuning Magazine), and I have considered going turbo, but turbo is very expensive if you wanna keep it running (high maintainence).
So far, they have cam gear, pulley out for the D17. Im sure their gonna come out with all the other internals soon like they did for the D16 SOHC.
I just wanted the veteran opinions if it is a WASTE of TIME to spend 2gs on my D17 SOHC and go all out N/A approx. 160 hp at the wheels with all boltons, ecu upgrade, internals ect. or should I just chill for a couple years and get a K20a2?
Does SOHC really matter? Is it a big difference compared to DOHC?
Peace.

Why wait for it to come out, get it custom made that way you can get exactly what your looking for anyway. You can get ur camshaft reground at alot of places, crower will do it for about 75 dollars. Also a new intake manifold is a must, and not really hard to get. A bigger TB would also help.
Its a celebration bitches!

don't do, it... its not worth it... just wait and save all your money and buy a k20... the things i do recomend you buying are some forged rims, probly 17's and a good suspention likfe tein or b& g, body kit, and a system... other than that don't do anything.

I'de do the RSX Type-S swap, or Type-R if you can afford it. The D17 won't produce that much power naturally aspirated. Well, maybe it could, but you're looking at a ton of money. I'de go with either a turbo on the D17, or a swap.
NA - $3,000 - 160hp
FI - $3,500 - 190hp
Swap - $4,500 - 200hp
Custom NA - $6,000 - 260p
Something like that anyway...

ok, I think iv'e made up my mind.
I have aem intake, Goldline Springs and N1 cat-back exhaust.
I guess that should do it until I get the K20a2.
Is there anything else I "should get" which will modify my engine before I start saving up for the engine swap?
Thanks guys for all your inputs.

I thought about going all motor, but even if you could get up some real power, it wouldn't really be a good daily driver. Now I think I'll live with the 7th gen another year or so and then take a look at a RSX-S or something that already has some power. I think the Nissan Z cars will be attractive once the frenzy wears off also.
For me an engine swap would be out of the question. Wnen I bought my Civic, the price difference between an EX and a RSX-S was about $5000 and the engine swap alone would cost that much.
And the guy is right about the gas mileage. Who knows, we may be paying over $2 a gallon before long.
