TO THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE PULLEYS AND CAM GEARS...
Did you feel a difference? do they make a difference? This is my current set up:
Injen CAI
DC headers
Custom 2.25" Exhaust
and this is what i wanna add by springtime:
NOS
S-AFC
Ignition
Pulleys
Cam Gears
Will the pulleys and cam gears make that big of a difference? or is it a waste???

Well first off hand lets get a few things straight.
We have a SOHC so only one cam. It will do nothing. A dual cam will do something because it controls what the other lacks. Our one cam has to regulate the RPM band itself. Hense why our VTEC kinda sux because on a Prelude (DOHC) the 2nd cam is more noticed upon the high RPM range (VTEC range), and it will kick better.
The Cam gear will not do anything at all unless you dyno tune it and/or get a cam shaft. No one makes cam shafts so you will have to go custom. The pulleys will however make a gain towards the front wheels. I suggest Unorthadox because they have a third pulley; the crank. Altho this is the BEST pully to have (the crank) it will also wear ur engine and is not always looked upon regular drivers. If ur a normal everyday driver, go with the AEM, u will feel a gain but the AEM does not include the crnak pulley.
Good luck.

If you remember, that ride of the week with the turbo dynoed at 97 whp or so for stock. That was about the same for me. My car stock dynoed around 95 whp. I started off with about the same setup as you. I started off with an aem cold air, dc 4-1 header, and neuspeed catback. I then got a aem cam gear and had it dyno tuned and I came out with 119 whp, which isn't bad. It's like a 24 whp gain from stock. And then I just added the Ultra SS 3 piece Unorthodox pulley set. That made the biggest difference of all. It says you're supposed to gain about 6 to 10 whp from the pulleys. Even at the worst I guess I'm around 125 whp with this setup right now. I will be gettin' it dynoed here again pretty soon to see exactly what it is with the pulleys. But I can tell you that I definitely noticed a difference with the pulleys. For a civic, I think this car moves pretty good right now.

i now that we're only SOHC, which is why i asked. I also heard about the crank pulley being the better of the set, yet also wearing out the engine faster. Thanks for the replies... AEM here I come!! I hope to do all this by end of springtime. I'll keep u all posted!
AdamOSU, sorry to burst ur bubble, but that was 197 not 097. It was runnin on 6psi and I think it was 140-somthing running on 4psi.
I have AEM (not installed yet) and they are better for me because:
1) cheaper
2) THhey come with the proper belts, the unorthadox does not include
I also have an AEM CAM gear I bought but wish I did not.
I bought both for 145 each when they came out because they are both BLUE, I wanted to hurry up get the blue before it was gone, like DCSports, they don't make blue strut bars anymore, you gotta wait a few more months.
I got the Cam gear for 150 and pulleys for 145.
I wanna get rid of em if someone will buy it, but they are expensive price, yet I don't wanna lose money because of it too.

97 wheel horsepower stock with no modifications - do i need to make it any clearer? I was making the point that a stock ex only runs about 100 whp or less. And knowing that i/h/e only adds probably a few horsepower, a tuned cam gear can really help out bringing me up to 119 whp. And the pulleys help even more.
Um no, cam gear goes zip, zero, zilch, nada for SOHC. cam gear is for tuning, your car comes tuned for how honda designed the car. If you change what honda has done than you have something to tune and cam gear is your friend. any hp gain on stock is by chance. why would honda send you a car that had its cam timing off?
AdamOSU, I wouldnt be confused if you quit replying over your previous post:
"Well from what I've heard the EX's are only pushin' 100 or so and maybe less stock."
"That turbo was the ride of the week a month or so ago. I dont remember the name."
And you also stated:
"If you remember, that ride of the week with the turbo dynoed at 97 whp or so for stock."
As for 2001civ, The CAM gear goesnt do anyhting unless you put out internals which none of us even mentioned so, it accutally DOES something; don't give readers the wrong idea

AdamOSU, here is what you need to do. Put a body kit on your car like everyother trendy 16 year old and think your cool. because you clearly not jack about cars and are I'm sure yours the same kind of little kid that would steet race and to show all the girls that won't touch you that you have a big d**k and hurt someone.
i have the aem cam gear and it help me out. i have a 4dr ex with header and intake. i have my aem retarted to like 3 degree. when i raced my friend (he has a civic ex coupe with header intake and catback exhaust) he had me in 1st to 2nd gear by a little and when i pop mines into 3rd boom i took off on him. so the cam gear did help me out. i would recommend on getting it. my next mod is a cam shaft.
