Another Intake Question
Many people say there is a difference between the size in transmission of the auto and manual, therefore, many cold air intakes (such as that of aem) can't be used for an auto. I have a question though... I have a 2001 honda civic ex auto and am looking for a CAI. I know injen has one, but im looking for a cheaper one w/ less installation hassle. There is an OBX intake on ebay that says its for the EX model, and it doesn't matter if its auto or manual. Can you guys check it out and tell me if its true and if you would bid on it. Or maybe someone already bought one for his/her car? Thanks for your help.

If you're getting the OBX, i recommend you get a K&N air filter and powder coat the pipe. I was thinking of getting the OBX intake, too... but after reading a few personal comments about it i decided to get an Injen CAI. Besides it's not that hard to install the Injen CAI.

Thanks for your response. I just read your links and realized the guy i was about to buy from was ssautochrome. haha, im glad i found out he's not a good guy to buy from. I also realized i didnt even post a link, haha, my bad. My major concern was whether or not it would fit my car w/out any custom modifications on my part. The following links are for the obx CAI and some no name SRI. Please let me know what you think now that the links are there. Thanks again all.

that OBX link doesn't show the ACTUAL picture of the CAI.... why get an OBX CAI when you get can an Injen CAI? You have to sort do the same work anyway for CAI's.
The Generic sucks, i bet the filter is sorry! Well, if i must be optimist i'd have to say powder coat that + install a K&N air filter.....then you might have some sound.
edit: If i had to pick between those two, definetely the OBX CAI.

I REALLY want to get the injen one, but im also kind of short on money. (thus lookin on ebay for obx... still afraid its not gonna fit my auto) Plus i have the tsunami t2001 front bumper, and it looks like a pain to take off and on. I'm starting to look on ebay for cheaper injen ones right now too. My dillema: Injen is obviously better but more money and work that i dont know how to do. obx is not nearly as good and maybe wont fit, but if it does it would be an easier install. haha, again, thanks for all of yall's help.

are you going for sound? I mean.. the CAI doesn't give you a lot more power than SRI... so why don't you just go for SRI? It will still give you sound after the powder coat and new filter.
You can always sell the intake and get a better one when you have money.

i haven't done it myself....but it's like applying some kind of powder or paint into the intake pipe so it makes the deep bass sound. How do you do it? I don't know. Where do you get it? That also i don't know.. heh. New thread.
though i respect their opinions, here's mine.
first of all, intakes do NOT make a significant power gain on our cars, no matter what AEM or Injen's "dyno charts" say. for $200-300, you're freeing up maybe 3-5hp at best. the "no-name" brand intakes do the exact same job as AEM and Injen. AEM is expensive because they're CARB exempt, and I don't think all Injens are. the heat resistant effect of the coating used on these intakes can be duplicated with simple ceramic-based engine paint. finally, the sound of the intake is based more on the brand of filter used, rather than the brand of the pipe. i bought a replica of the AEM CAI for $70, and an Injen filter for $20 off ebay. sounds great, and doesn't improve HP by much, just like the other intakes!

Do yourself a favor and DO NOT buy on of those E-bay cheapos. I did and the weld brok on it so I welded it back and it broke again. They do not fit good at all! I just tossed it and got an Injen
why do you want an intake? it dosn't add any power...Mayble like 1 - 1.5 hp. OOOOOhhh!! what a gain.. it makes no difference. All it does is add sound...its a waste of money, especially on our cars where its hard to get any power out of..unless u get NOS....
I have an injen cold air intake and i've still had a very bad problem w/ it hitting the transmission, i emailed injen and then said to just make sure that i rearranged a connector on the transmission to help protect it, i've also havd a problem w/ it hitting against the chasis around the splash guard. I ordered a short ram to take its place, so sick of the injen cold air.
