Cam gears and pulleys

If I get cam gears and pulleys for my coupe, how much horsepower will i get? and how much are they? are the aem ones the best ones or should i get some generic kinds?

I don't know about the cam gears. I think you would need a dyno for those.

I would go with the unorthodox pulley(s). AEM is good but they only offer the alternator and power steering pulleys. However, you will need new belts and AEM includes them in the set. Unorthodox offers the alt, ps, and the crank pulley in a set for 300 bucks. The set does not include the belt. Personally, I would go with the unorthodox set because of the crank pulley. I am fairly sure most of the gains come from the crank. With all 3 pulleys on, I would expect a ~5hp gain but that's just my opinion.

i just install the aem pulleys today... there's one more i still need to change..
but i still need to crank pulley and only unorthodox makes it.. i can feel it there's gain..
the rpm stick moves faster...give you a better throttle response..
cam gears it's useless cause our car is sohc not dohc

Actually, if you have the AEM pulleys DO NOT buy the unorthodox crank pulley. the rotation is totally different.. it will not help anything.. it will only hurt your car. If you want to get the most out of a pulley system go with the unorthodox SET! most of the horsepower comes from the crank pulley.. and you can expect 5-8hp from them. You can not mix match pulley sets.. either go with aem and go without the crank pulley.. or go with unorthodox and get the max hp. as for cam gears.. yeah.. you can get a little gain out of them.. but not anything you'll notice from a stock cam. You need an aftermarket cam in order to get a true gain from the cam gears. There are no cams produced for our cars.. your only option is to go through a machine shop and get your stock cam regrinded.... for example Gude performance offers cams for our cars.. but they are regrinds. Hope this helped a little.

Yes I agree to above: Need the matched set. UR has JUST started shipping the Ultra SS (3 pulley set) here is their website. It is not (today) up to date. The product number is 020611102. I have it on the way and hope to have it installed by the 31st. I will let you know what it does at the drag strip after that. They said their flywheel and clutch products for our Civics should be ready by summer's end. If you call them, ask for Juan at extension 13.

Yep, red, blue, and polished. Only thing is you don't get a belt(s) with them. Anybody know what belt is needed for the unorthodox ultra street set???

I know a website that has them. I can't think of it right now. I know they are listed on the group buy center at the moment.

Go to this web page and scroll down to the bottom of the page. There it is the Ultra SS for $349. If you hit the "contact us" tab, you can get the phone number and Juan is at extension 13. Like I said they JUST got this product in this week and are just now shipping. This mod won't affect smog in any way. There is a lot of good info on their website so bump around there and see what you can find out. Good luck.

The group buy center is a very annoying site imo. You have to register and login everytime you join the site. Here is the link for the group buy center. GroupBuyCenter

Once you register, click this link for the pulleys. This particular group buy ends today, the 23rd.

Pulley Set

Edit: I wasn't too clear about the login. You register once and then have to login everytime you access the site.

OK, now I'm nervous. Are these guys good. When do I expect my gear? Have you dealt with them before? Calm me down. Thanks - you saved me about $50.

Yes. I actually ordered the ss set about a month ago from them. You can check the status of your order through their website, racesearch.com. I kept checking the status looking for a shipping date but after a week the order still hadn't been sent out. I grew impatient and sent an email to cancel the order. My account was credited the very next day. I actually posted up some comments in the "questions/reply" area about their shipping times. They emailed me saying that they were switching to new servers at the time my order was placed, and therefore, got delayed. They apologized and said that everything was back to normal now. Unfortunately, I went out and bought some rotas with the money. The group buy ends today but they are only offering free shipping as the bonus. Normally, you would pay the 296 + 8 bucks for shipping. 8 bucks is 8 bucks though. Now, if I can just slip the purchase by my wife....

Edit: FamilyMan------>Do you know what size belts the ultra ss pulleys require or have a part number? Please let me know.

Just talked with a guy from racesearch.com. He says the pulleys will not ship for 2-3 weeks. He says they have sold a ton of them and they are backordered at the current moment. Hmmmm...it's a good price but I hate waiting for parts!

Edit: Man! I always forget something. He said that the unorthodox pulleys do not require new belts. Something about the ratio or something. At least that is resolved.

Mbow: back from camping. The Ultra SS will require new belts according to Unorthodox Racing. About 2 inches shorter. I hate waiting for parts too. The Ultra SS Just started shipping from UR last week, as they had just manufactured the parts, or had them manufactured as it may be. So, I can't imagine the group buy site being able to ship them before now. I will let you know what is up when I get mine and have them installed.
