Best Cold Air Intake?
Best Cold Air Intake?
New to the forum here. I have a 2003 honda civic ex, D17a2 vtec engine with automatic transmission. Now I've read a lot regarding this generation of civics and understand it is very hard to increase the hp on them. This being said I am still going to spend a little money for some modifications. First modification I am going to perform is adding a cold air intake system. Now doing my research it appears that the Injen sp cold air intake and the K&N 57 fipk cold air intake would make the most noticeable performance gains on this generation of civics. Can someone please advise which of these two options would produce the most hp gains?

Re: Best Cold Air Intake?
They all do the same thing.
Cold air systems will net you the same power across brands.
"Ram air" systems will loose some power because the air in the engine will not be as dense as the air outside.
However, for safety it is a good idea to get a system that is set up with two pipes to avoid sucking water into the intake during the rainy season. This way you can run the short pipe in winter then attach the second pipe to the first for Summer.
Basically what you ar buying is a pipe. You can buy a cheap ebay one and it will net the same power as a $300 K&N, it may not look as pretty but it will work.
If you go with the cheaper intakes, in general, most people will ditch the filter which comes with the intake and buy an AEM or K&N filter.
