Engine noise

It started a couple of days ago. Im not sure if its knocking or ticking. It doesnt seem to make any difference weather its idling or just driving the noice seems to stay the same.
I posted how it sounds on utube, maybe someone could have a listen.
Its a 2002 civic with 175000 km.

Re: Engine noise

Sounds like it could be a noisy valve. Maybe you need your valve clearances adjusted.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Re: Engine noise

Sounds like an engine running to me....
Might be an exhaust manifold crack.

Can't tell much with it just idling.
How about a snap throttle?

How bout you move your own ears around to figure out where the tick is loudest?

Re: Engine noise

take off your oil cap and see if the noise is louder coming out of it. Does it go away when engine gets hot? i would say either rocker or exhaust manifold gasket hard to tell from a sound clip. A cracked manifold is usually very loud. Look for black carbon around the exhaust manifold where it bolts to the head will need to remove heat shield
