I found a typhoon intake on ebay for $150 bucks is this good or should i be looking at a aem v2 or injen that is around $300? also i dont know if i want a cai or a short ram, which would u guys suggest. i just want the sound out of it i know there will be very little HP gain. Got a 04 ex coupe stock other than a catback.

I have the K&N typhoon intake on my 02 honda civic dx. It definitely is very nice and clean and you get a K&N air filter. I am not sure but it may be hurting my gas mileage but it definitely gives some extra punch to acceleration.

Re: K&N Typhoon Air intake ?

Imo don't waste your time buying an intake don't get me wrong k&n are great filters if you went with the typhoon, but a simple mod to the intake will give you the same power increase and it's free. Your intake is divided into 3 part. Intake tube> air box> filter box> engine. Remove the first 2 parts and vwala!! It's the equivalent to a SR and it's free. No, incase you are wondering it will not throw a sensor. I have had mine this way for months through summer and winter it has been perfectly fine. That's just a suggestion, but believe me, knowing you aren't wasting money on something that isn't going to drastically increase performance is very nice.

My question would be what's the point? Removing the intake tube and filter box causes the air to be drawn from under the hood instead of near the headlight. Pulling warmer air will not give you a power increase.

It's the exact same affect as a short ram, the tubing on a SR is only a foot farther out, and it opens up a large area in the engine for air from outside the car to come into the engine bay.

Removing the air box will not increase outside air coming into the engine bay. The stock system without the intake and air box may be similar to a SRI but neither one will increase power as you suggested.

So that's why my car when stock could only push 119 and now pushes 130?? There is a big gaping whole where that box was so it opens up the engine bay to cooler air blowing under the car. I was looking at trading in my car so I put it all back together and when I did it felt like i was driving a golf cart compared to what it was without the intake.

I would like to see the dyno sheets where you went from 119 to 130 by removing an airbox. Air under the car does not enter the engine bay unless there is an exhaust opening to create flow.

To get back to original point test it out, if you don't see a difference and don't like it, put it back and buy the typhoon.

Re: K&N Typhoon Air intake ?

From 119 - 130, are we talking HP or MPH? Taking a pic while driving doesn't do much to prove HP gains.

Raveneye, going by the Rate Your Intake threads around here, I narrowed it down to the Weapon R and the K&N Typhoon. That's what it seemed people were happier with. Another thing I've been seeing is that they replace the K&N filter with an AEM Dryflow. A few people said they had trouble with some of the brackets on the AEM tubes cracking.

Today I happened to be comparing prices. $150 sounds legit. I found one for that price and free shipping at StreetSideAuto.com.

MPH, I would love to hook it up to a dyno, not to prove anyone wrong, just to see what I'm getting.

Yeah - a lot of people think it's a waste on a Civic, but would satisfy my curiosity to see if any of the $$$ and sweat made much of a difference.
