Accord oil filter in civic?
Accord oil filter in civic?
Hey guys, so I wanted to know what you all thought about this. Last time I was at the parts store I bought an oil filter installed it and ran it for 6k before doing an oil change, just to get my numbers to 5's and 0's. I did an oil change saturday and not thinking any thing of it put the old filter in the new box. The filter was bigger than the box, come to find out it is the accord model. Now the whole time I checked the oil after 5k to make sure it would be fine to run another 1k. It stayed amber the whole time, never actaully got black. The other variable however in this is that I used castrol gtx high miles and regular 50/50. My car is at 150k so unless my engine is running amazingly, do you guys think the accord filter actually is doing a better job? It fit perfectly and sealed perfectly. I used Fram Ultra filters.
Re: Accord oil filter in civic?
I have heard guys use S2000 oil filter on there 7th gen's because it is a bigger filter. I suppose a bigger filter would have more filter media so it would trap more dirt. Filters of the same size in different brands have different amounts of filtering material.
Re: Accord oil filter in civic?
GolNat: I typically use the Fram Ultra. That is what the accord filter they gave me was. It was just slightly bigger. I don't think I saw any signs of leaks, but after this oil change I don't know if I ever will. Oil gushed everywhere so now the front of my firewall/back of my engine block is covered. Any idea how to clean it off safely?
Re: Accord oil filter in civic?
I use paper towels to clean the bottom of my oil pan and around the filter. An engine degreaser would work also but I find paper towels to be easier.
