just doing downpipe?
I think my cat is getting clogged im getting a p0420 code i know it could be just hte sensor but with 200k i dont know if it was ever changed. anyway want to remove the cat and get something that will just bolt in and perhaps the car will be able to breath better without having to make it louder. i have no emiisions testing here ill just get a simulator and pipe.
im looking at this pipe http://www.ebay.com/itm/Test-Pipe-Re...ht_3094wt_1080
its $60 shipped all stainless. is this a good deal or can they be had cheaper? i dont care if its stainless or not honestly.
would there be any performs gains to be had, besides the gains from removing a clogged cat?

Re: just doing downpipe?
seems fine..just hope you don't get caught...as for gains....think about physics....if the pipe is wider you'll prolly gain a grain of performance...for performance, replace the entire exhaust system, high flow cat...header, catback.......the pipe in the link don't look like no cat..just a piece of piping...sure less restriction...but not legal...up to you

I don't want to trade stock cat back at all. If anything I'm looking to remove cat and do it bolt up so I need the whole pipe this looks like a direct bolt in piece
Anyone else run a catless down pipe with stock cat back?

You would still have a CEL on by the way, you need an O2 sensor simulator to get rid of the CEL. However you need a bung in order to do that, perhaps look for a test pipe with a bung already installed.

Re: just doing downpipe?
If that's the case would I loose performance gutting my stock cat? Not sure how a large empty space would change performance I can't see the turbulance adding performance but it would be a free way to get rid of the clogged cat until I figure out what I'm doing with the car

Re: just doing downpipe?
called scrap yard and i can get $75 for my cat. im going to cut it out weld in a $6 piece of exhaust and use the $65 i make off doing it for a new o2 as mine is oem w/221k miles
i dont have emission testing here so no worries about getting caught especially since a friend and ill say a friend of a friend does my inspections for me. as long as there is no light ill have no issue passing

Re: just doing downpipe?
The trouble is are you going to have a spot in the new pipe for the O2 sensor? Running without an O2 sensor is bad as you will be constantly running in open loop. Bad gas milage, and poor performance will be the side effects.
If you run a straight pipe with a O2 simulator you will not notice any gains or loss.

Re: just doing downpipe?
no i dont hate our planet and me running no cat wont destroy our planet on its own. but id rather not get into that right now.
I weld and i can get the m18x1.5 bolt from my local hardware store for $2 to weld on the pipe for a bung. also you do not need to run a rear o2 it does not tell the computer a/f feedback. forcing it to run in open or closed loop is a different thing though and any insight on that will be great. Id just weld the bung on it and run the dual defouler setup showed all over the internet to fool the o2 into giving a proper signal to keep the cel off
anyone have input on this downpipe then? looks like its got a "highflow" cat on it for only $2 more seems too cheap for $62 shipped.

Re: just doing downpipe?
It's called a test pipe. No cat included with it and it does nothing to filter exhaust. Which means you will be polluting a lot more than running with a proper cat, or even a high flow one. I just can't promote that
However, it will fit and work sure.

You can run without a cat. However you will pollute a lot. I suggest either getting a good quality high flow catalytic converter, an aftermarket cheap-O that still cleans the exhaust or best is the original Honda cat but they are expensive. Either way, I really think you should have some kind of filtration.
(I've heard good and bad things about Random Technology high flow Catalytic Converters)

Re: just doing downpipe?
yes NYC is the only area with emissions testing i believe. I live an hour north
i think its either partially clogged or its my 02 sensor. I have a new denso coming in the mail tomorrow. sometimes the car seems to pull ok at high rpm, and others i might as well shift at 4k because power flatlines. hoping its the o2, if not and it is cat ill have to cut off so my 1500 mile trip this weekend my cat is not bogging my car down
