Exclamation 2001 civic AEM intake or no?

My baby

So I saw a aem cold-air intake at the auto-zone and i wanted to get one, because all my screws in my stock air box are stripped, and some missing.

I was wondering if a lot of stuff in my car is rusted would i have a hard time getting the old out and the new in?

Also my rear back brakes are squeaking when I let off I took it to a few brake places and they say there fine and the squeak is normal I have rear disk brakes.

One more question I had this piece just come off today i think it was connected around the steam of the stock headers or what ever that piece is.

This was just lying in there making nosie and has been there for some time now I just now saw it down there and pulled it up out.

Came from down in there.

Thanks.

1.7 non vtech honda civic lx no mods.

Nice to see a standard civic that isn't all wiggerized with body kits and huge mufflers.

The brake squeak is probably just brake dust...use some brake dust cleaner.

If that piece broke off your headers it could "possibly" be causing an air leak don't you think? If it fell off and you cant see where from i'd be worried. You might wanna swap out those headers with some even stock ones...That is if you're not modifying things for performance. Get some used for cheap.

Is your check engine light on?

Why is your car so rusty already? did you buy it that way; or did you just let it go to garbage; maintenance wise? Spray some rust remover on the parts that are rusted or down the road you'll be having holes eaten everywhere .... My headers were semi rusted in small spots and i got it all off before it got bad and haven't had problems since. You clearly do not want rust anywhere in your car.

Removing rusted screws. Pb blaster will get them off..

Whats this frayed wire in the bottom pic?

Rust and squeaks are a sure sign of the car never being taken care of.

Re: 2001 civic AEM intake or no?

I totally bought the car stock and only added rims and stereo stuff. The frayed wire I do not know what the hell that is. Its like right in front of the engine. The car has a few issues but nothing majorly noticeable. The car when bought had 137xxx miles I now have 153xxx. All problems were pre-existent. How would I know if I had a air leak im kinda learning the whole performance scene ...

I am 18 and I got most tools to fix anything I just need to know what to fix yeah know. Lol

Theirs a pic.

It was on but just kinda easily was removed though like the same stuff is on the other side.

Thanks for your help though.

Re: 2001 civic AEM intake or no?

i cant really tell what that is maybe heat shield ??? that wire looks like a ground i would definitely replace that.and if your airbox is leaking then i would get the short ram but i don't think autozone stocks 2001 civic intakes so make sure it fits your model. also you can get them cheaper online. i wish my stock civic came with rear disc brakes.

Re: 2001 civic AEM intake or no?

its part of the cat converter heat shield. kinda important because it keeps the cat hot so it functions properly. but i doubt it would cause any real issues while driving. unless it took off some of the header with it, which would be a noticable problem.

Re: 2001 civic AEM intake or no?

I don't know if these are major issues but I avg about 16-19 mpg but I am an aggressive driver and heavy on the pedal. But I have noticed when the car is about to shift it jumps in rpms revs high then gets into gear.

Example cruising at 30 working up to 40 2k on tach raising to 3k about to shift stops moving revs hard to about 5-6k rpm then goes way down to 2k.

Re: 2001 civic AEM intake or no?

that means you better start saving up for a transmission rebuild . 2001-2003 automatics have severe transmission problems the clutch packs chew themselves to pieces . you can either find a used 04-05 trans preferably with low miles or get a overhaul kit and rebuild it with that either way its on its way out.i hope you didn't pay much for that car with all that premature rust im starting to think it was a flood car katrina maybe ???

Re: 2001 civic AEM intake or no?

Your rims and driving style aren't helping your mileage. Are you doing all city? Rebuild the tranny, it's expensive but you won't have issues again. Did you look underneath the car before you bought it to check for rust?

Re: 2001 civic AEM intake or no?

Sadly I didn't get to pick my car I drive all city, although I become 18 in just 10 days I plan to buy something new. I think Id be better off my dad made me get this car and I did everything I could to make it a better car. Got it maintained all the time tried to fix things on it like I got a new batt cause it still had the stock one it it and kept dieing. Had to get new batt terminals cause the old ones came in pieces with the twist of a wrench. Redone the exhaust cause who ever had it before had it riced.

I hope I can just trade it for a decent amount and get something nicer. I can see this car giving me a lot of trouble in the next 10k miles or so.

Btw.. I have drum brakes in the rear and are local auto-zone actually has a aem cold air intake for 01-03 civics i thought it was odd as well.

And the AEM intake there was only 106$ alot cheaper then I see online.

Re: 2001 civic AEM intake or no?

Civics are great cars... You just may have gotten one that was abused. There are a lot of people on here that love their cars. What do you consider a better car? A BMW? A cavalier?

Your making it sound like all civics are pieces of ****, which is not true.

Well I'm sorry if it sounds that way, I mean just a better car/newer apparently mines a soon to be POS... I'm not dissing on Civics or Honda just stating I hope I get something nicer/better

If I got another civic I would get an SI though.

Yes he is right. Speed makes a big difference. I average 80MPH and I get around 33MPGs... Stock car though, no mods at all.

dam in connecticut if your pulled over doing 80mph its considered reckless driving and they arrest you and tow your car.

Re: 2001 civic AEM intake or no?

Well, the speed limit here is 100KMH (60MPH), I drive 130-140 which is 80MPH+) It's still a pretty big ticket but reckless here is 150+, so I'm not overly concerned about it. The car revs at 4000RPMS at that point which is my only real concern.
