A short ram AEM Intake on a 2004 Honda Civic DX Sedan. Compard to a "JDM off ebay 40 dollar intake" ??
Is it worth the extra 100 bucks?

Re: No Name intake or AEM Intake
No it's not worth the money to get a name brand AEM intake.
We like to call it a filter on a stick cause that is all it is. It makes no difference cause of the name you will still get the same thing. Save your money and do what beadebaserr said it will give you the exact same results as an AEM. the name is not worth what a lot of people think it is. It is mostly to sucker in people that are new to tunning industry and don't no a whole lot about cars

I bought a CAI of ebay awhile ago, thing sucked. pipes didnt fit, pieces were crap. but really as long as you have a good filter, its all the same.
and with CAI its illegal to get a cheep one, that not the case with short ram?

It's just that on certain cars, an after market intake does little to nothing for performance gains.
The extra money you pay for name brand intakes is for the R&D and in some cases for the fact it's been approved for road use.
It doesn't matter if it's short ram or cold air, if it's not approved for road use, its illegal.
carter: Be cautious...
Most if not all eBay cold air intakes are copies of intakes for manual transmissions, even if they claim its for an automatic.
All short rams will fit both manual and automatic.
You get a crappy filter with eBay kits.
The welds suck...they don't seem to be as sturdy as name brand kits.
Sometimes you are missing install pieces or come with extra leftover pieces to confuse you.

I would say read up on the threads about intakes. I listened to GearBox's post and I've just bought the Weapon-R secret intake and will be putting it on soon as the weather gets a bit bearable.

Re: No Name intake or AEM Intake
honestly, it's all the same for me. i don't have to have anything CARB legal on my car, i live in ohio. the city i register my car in has no emissions testing so i don't care.
an intake is an intake on a d17, period. i'd just save your money and spend it somewhere it'd matter.
