More HP or waranty?

Hah, well the old dilemma of either tuning up the stock motor or keeping the warranty... I drive an 07 Civic Lx coupe 5 speed. Is it worth upgrading the parts or just keeping my warranty? How much money would i need to put into it to make worth while...? Right now working on the looks then going from there.. Leave some input.

Re: More HP or waranty?

how long till ur warranty is up?? also, i have a 100k warranty and my tranny went like at 86k so the warranty pretty much got me a new Honda tranny for only like $50 out of pocket... dont mess with it imo. Warranties are life savers!

This was the same delima for me, so in about 9k when my warranty is up, its game on!

Do what you should have done in the first place, and get an Si. Then, you'll have power, and a warranty.

Re: More HP or waranty?

Then you probably can't afford to do anything that will void the warranty on your car, like internals. Intake, exhaust, etc. shouldn't void the warranty.

Re: More HP or waranty?

Yup they do have to prove that it was your aftermarket "mod" that caused the damage before they deny your coverage, but you could always take the part off before it got into the shop. But for major HP, its more that a notion taking the parts off or out. n e wayz, still how long is your warranty??

Re: More HP or waranty?

lol, well then the only thing i would recommend are bolt ons that can be easily removed. say u have to take it in to get serviced. Intake, Header, Exhaust, etc.. Also anything cosmetic wont touch your warranty, unless its a full body kit, but i doubt u wanna go that route.

modding the engine will only get engine repiars DENIED under warranty. (or you can fight that and try and have them prove the aftermarket part is a result for the damage) there's some law saying they cannot deny you due to an aftermarket part. IE you have engine work they cant deny a suspension problem thats stock

Yeah, more or less what I meant.

Basically, if you turbo it, or build the engine, they could choose not to honor the warranty on the engine, clutch, tranny, and just about any other part of the drivetrain. Put an aftermarket deck in it, they won't warranty the speakers if you keep the stock ones. Upgrade your brake lines, or even use unapproved fluid, you may end up replacing calipers, etc. out of pocket. Like everyone else has said, basic, bolt on mods should be ok, but I wouldn't do anything extreme.

Re: More HP or waranty?

Considering any bolt on isn't going to amount to any significant power and you'll only be slightly faster than another stock Civic, I would rather not modify and keep all the hassels out of any warranty that might need to be done.

My stock 2002 Civic w/ 45k has more problems than my 95 Taurus that has been modified (90k miles). You never know when you'll have to take it in.
