Generic Catalytic Converter installed
Generic Catalytic Converter installed
I recently had a new generic converter installed in my 2000 Civic EX. After it was installed, I had a problem with the car stalling in the mornings when I left for work. I took it back to the mechanic but he couldn't find the problem. I took it to another mechanic that said the battery terminal was loose. When I ask him why it would be loose, he said that maybe when they MIG? welded the converter in they may have unhooked the battery. Does that make any sense?
Not sure if the stalling is gone. It only happens occassionally and usually in the morning.

Re: Generic Catalytic Converter installed
Well.. I dont see why you would disconnect the battery if your changing anything in the exhaust path. MAYBE for a sensor, but thats not necessary. But they might have done it just to be safe- maybe they had to keep your door open for some work near the ECU for something else installed, and unhooked it to save the battery, :-/ I dunno. But your car would stall if your battery wasnt giving juice to the car.
You should do an idle relearn. Start your car up with all the electronics and air off, dont touch the gas pedal, wait 10 minutes. Turn the car off. Start it back up, go for a drive, park it and forget about your idle problems.
