Cold Air Vs Short Ram
Cold Air Vs Short Ram
I just recently bought a 2nd hand black 2004 civic sedan LX. I'm looking to have it installed with a nice air intake for the cosmetic part and performance aswell, but the problem i am having is, which is easier to install by myself and what would be the effects on my car of either the two? Can you give me more info on these,Thank you.

the short ram would be easier of the 2 to install. since you dont have to get a pipe and airfilter to the bottom of our already cramped engine bay. but they both do nothing for the engine. so get one ever one you think looks the best.
You can install the intake yourself, and all you need is basic hand tools. Yes it will look great and you will gain slighty in the performance department. You will notice an increase in the sound of your intake as well.

but my SRI was the easy to instal and from what i hear CAI is harder? but i wouldnt know. theres a DIY on the website search Intake DIY or look at the forum DIYS it may take more time but its really not that stressful

Only Difference that is noticable on that car with an intake is a SRI because it sounds louder. The gain in HP doesnt matter much because your car doesnt have 100 whp anyways thats why i traded up
on AEMs site it says the CAI for the LX is a gain of 5.3HP .. 6.6 hp gain from the SRI. this cant be right but 12.2 hp gain with the V2 on the LX and a 10.7 ft-lbs of torque gain with the v2 as well.. the V2 is an SRI for our cars so its easy to install.
^^^ What a joke...
From what I've heard, the K&N Typhoon is ahead of the pack as far as intakes go...
Didn't Gearbox just get a new one that he really liked?
Anyways, my advice would be to go with a shortram... just to keep your filter high and dry!

If these numbers where not correct, AEM could get sued. Think about it.

The main difference that hasnt been touched on is this:
Short ram (SRI) is a short pipe that pulls hot air (produced by the engine) back into your engine-- which is allright....
Cold air (CAI) is a long pipe that places the intake filter down by your bumper. With this, your going to be pulling in "cold air" which makes it easier for your engine. The only problem here is if you live in an area that gets wet. I live in portland and we get as much rain as Seattle. Being the CAI filter is so low, and its SUCKIN air in, spray up from the road can be pulled into your engine. This isnt a concern of a lot of people, but it does happen. To deal with this- you can build a plastic sheild so water doesnt get to the filter. You could also buy a bypass- which looks a lot like a diaphragm sponge from back in the day- ha. But heres the best way to avoid the water- buy a CAI that can convert to a SRI, so when the rainy season starts soaking EVERYTHING on the road, you'll be able to switch that ish out and be ready. Springs comes back, drop that other pipe in and hit the gas.
Hope that helps.

I was gonna post a topic just like this, i also have an LX sedan used, i just bought it, but mine is an 02.
Anywhoooo...
So being that the SRI sucks in hotter air is that bad for your engine in the long run, or does the CAI improv the life of your engine?

But more hp gains from short ram, than cold air!!! That is all that matters. Warm, or cold who cares its for the look for most.
