AEM dryflow filter available yet?? YES
not very dusty here in southern cali. I am going for maximum power. a little dirt never hurt and assuming that the injen/k&n filter really is "bad", it is still filtering out the larger particles that are obviously unwanted.
as long as I do my regularly scheduled oil changes, I really can care less about the tiny particles that still don't make a difference. Even if it makes it past my intake filter, it will not make it past my oil filter.
I bought my k20 to have fun with, NOT for it to be a daily driver, NOT for it to have others look down upon what I do with MY engine, NOT so my engine will last 300,000 miles instead of 200,000 miles. In a few years, I will have a new car anyway.
I am a perfectionist in most cases. Having something be a restriction when the pros outweigh the cons is just having a burden to me.
Though I bought my motor to have fun with, I'd say 95% of the time I'm still treating it as a daily driver. I shift at 3000 rpms and I'm relatively easy on the gas. But when I want to have fun with it, I take it up to 8500 without thinking twice and knowing my car is the fastest it can be with my current setup brings me relief instead of wondering "I wonder how fast it would be if I had X part, Y part and Z part instead"
poke holes in the filter? please. that is quite an exaggeration about the effectiveness of the injen/k&n filter. That would mean that EVERY SINGLE PERSON who purchases an Injen intake, K&N intake or AEM intake (along with many major intake manufacturers) is gonna have some sort of problems with their car because their filter doesn't filter well enough.
Have you SEEN the so-called velocity stack that the dryflo filters have to offer? I wouldn't even count it was one. It's a pile of marketing-garbage.
why is this post so long? I feel that you were indirectly attacking me.

sorry wasn't trying to attack you. I've seen tests where the new K&N only starts at 91% filtering capacity and stock is at 98%. I'm just saying its a big spread but like you said it won't kill the motor overnight. I've heard of people that used the filters all the time and had the motor last 300k miles.
do you have pics of the aem by chance?
do you have pics of the aem by chance?
it's 3" inlet.
the filter material feels like a fuzzy, sandy, hard paper towel.
the only thing I was really impressed by was the strength of it. Unlike the older filters that tend to get permanently bent when you just poke at the mesh, these ones are very strong.
the big downside is that the 'velocity stack' extends a little further out than the opening... which means that your intake pipe can only go so far in the filter. (unlike old filters where you can push the filter until basically it hits the other side of the filter)

nope no more mod. too busy now.
okay now you're making me want to keep my weapon-r filter. it was tested with a K&N and actually the weapon-r sw1 filter flowed more air than an open pipe with no filter while the K&N flowed less than open pipe.
on a side note, when i tried a paper filter on my old K&N intake, i could feel the difference. so i don't think i wanna use paper now cause i remember how sucky it was. is foam any good? cause thats what the sw1 is made of...

hmm, currently I am using a Pepboys brand filter ... it looks very similar to this one:

except it's white (not that that matters)
theoretically, it should flow more because of the opening at the top, correct?
I would consider using the weapon-R filter... except I wouldn't know how the hell I'd clean it.
My old sf turbo came with a foam filter ... it started out as a bright blue then after a long while, it became a very green/gray color ... I took it out and "cleaned" it (soap and water), but that didn't seem to do anything.

wow well this test says oiled foam is the best filter even better than paper! I think i'm gonna get the foam SW1 filter it uses oiled foam and flows more air than not even having a filter. cleaning is easy weapon-r has a cleaning kit (pricey $20) and says you just spray the cleaner, wash it off, and then spray the oil on. its just like any other filter cleaning and it says you can do this indefinately without the foam falling apart.

i think the only downside of oiled foam is you have to clean it every 3k in dusty conditions for it to flow well.

viet: thanks
gear: very impressive ... looks like I'm gonna have to switch pretty soon ;P
is the weapon-r filter any bigger than a K&N? ... since I'm using an rsx-s intake, fitment is kinda ... hard. If I get any filter bigger (taller) than my current one or the injen, then it pushes hard against the bumper ... which in turn, pushes against the intake, which rubs against my tires.
Since I was only able to get the aem dryflo on only so far, the above paragraph is what happened ... which is another huge reason why I don't care for it.

the thing with the weapon-r is it has a real velocity stack tuned on a flow bench with cad software so it actually works. They have it in 3 inch and 4 inch inlets and its kinda small i think only 5 inches long. it actually looks just like the dryflow pic you posted. here lemme post pics of the intake i'm getting with 3 inch filter hold on.
hm, very interesting. I will have to order one soon ...
hmm, the top of the filter looks like it has an opening to it ... any pics of that?
on another note ... why the switch from the k&n typhoon? ;P

i heard good things about weapon-r and the way it sounds. i just wanna try it out i guess. typhoon was too ricey and only 1whp gain. but i guess no real reason.
that front part of the filter is open and you can connect an optional ram air kit sold separately.

the SW1 (secret weapon) is their best filter. the others are just average design. hyper and dragon are pretty much the same no real innovations.

i can measure the filter dimensions when i get the intake on thursday. did you see the clubrsx post about the guy who got a secret weapon intake for his type-s? he said it outperformed his old sri.
http://forums.clubrsx.com/showthread...=weapon+intake
the SW1 is only $50 from that site i posted. and no i don't like how the ram air looks. too ghetto.

lolz. i might get a new one too depending on how bad the one on the intake is. i heard you can use any cleaning kit but it says it voids the filter warranty for weapon-r so i just ordered their own kit.

oil foam is the best for hi dirt areas. they use em in motocross all the time. ofcourse you'll have to clean it more often but it will actually keep dirt out of the intake.
