air intake question

air intake question
I wanna get an air intake but i have some questions. First does it really matter the what kind of intake i get? like i know the difference between like short, cold, v2 and stuff but i wanted to know do i really need to get a name brand like aem or injen or can i just buy one from ebay and get a name brand filter? would it make a difference if i dont have the brand name piping. also when i install it do i have to reset the ECU? because on this site it does but i dont think you really need to.(http://www.madstatic.com/2k1civic/diy/aemcai/) THanks
