So i went to the muffler shop

i went to a muffler shop to get my tip welded... i asked him "does an exhaust system do anything to an automatic?" he was like yeah... that intake and some programmer chip... he said ull gain 10 hp and some torque... i was wondering is this true?.. he also said something about my gas milage but i couldnt really understand him... whats this chip hes talkin about?.... haha im lost!.. and he said the 3 i listed... exhaust intake and programmer chip... will help the car breathe a lot better...

chip usually refers to ECU when you're talking to a pro or a euro car guy. it doesn't matter whether you have an automatic transmission or a manual transmission - if the car can't breathe freely, it will not be at it's fullest potential. people have already found out that the civic already breathes freely stock, so adding an intake, exhaust, or header will only give you very minimal gains (we're talking 1-2 hp at the most for each mod). there is no ECU to date that replaces our stock ECU. nobody cares about the D17.
