2nd AEM V2 just about broken
Well, I'm in my 2nd AEM V2 intake.... and I just noticed the bracket is pulling off the pipe. This happened to my 1st one as well, which broke in 5 months... this one lasted about a little over a year. Thankfully AEM has warranty so my 3rd one is it's way. but such a hassle!

they dont break apart just rub against the body and will eventually rub a whole in it if you dont have something to protect it, like some pvc pipe and shoe goo. *the injen that is*

for the aem, find a thick rubber washer and stick it between the intake bracket and mount point. My K&N has this type of setup so the intake can move around without breaking. I'll take pics later if you want.

As for the rubber piece, I thought about that after my 1st one broke. AEM says it's not necessary, so I never bothered. This 1 held up alright, but I think it snapped b/c I was in an emergency situation where I just floored it at around 1200 RPM. I do have a replacement already, so I'll put it on and use a rubber piece.

Its not supposed to be stiff. The intake should be able to flex about an inch back and forth. Try and fit some rubber in there if you can or it will just break again.

wow, tripple post! thanks gearbox, I will go to Home Depot later and get a rubber washer. Now, I have a metal washer right now, should I retain that and just add the rubber 1, or should I not use the metal 1 completely?

its a minor problem caused by bad install instructions. You can't screw metal to metal and expect it to be able to move when the engine does. Thats why you need the rubber washer.

I think I know how I broke 2.... 1 of them I was going up hill in 1st gear at a certain RPM and just floored it.... 2nd time was pretty much same deal but I did it for emergency reasons. My first was welded poorly; as were all the early model V2's. When I finally got to my 3rd V2, it had better welds but I also put a rubber piece there like in gearbox's picture... and that should work.
thats not entirely true, a lot of ppl here have broken e-bay stuff.... the thing is, when driving with any intake that attaches at that point, you can just....... floor it or the engine will torque and just snap it. but of course ebay just has thei intake dangling everywhere.
