I have stock exhaust piping running back to my Tanabe Racing Medallion Muffler, it sounds okay but i want it to be a little bit louder. How can i do this?
unbolt everything from the header back! guarantee you'll make noise, get attention, and get a ticket.
go to your local muffler shop and get them to custom bend you piping to your muffler, around $150 ish, will sound louder, basically turn your muffler into a catback system
you can do custom piping (2.25" seems to be the favorable choice for n/a engines and our cars) from cat to muffler, which may cost you from $100-150 depending on which kind of pipes you want.
OR you can go the cheap route if you dont care for performance at all by removing the stock resonator and replace it with just piping from so its all one pipe from the cat to muffler. but i dont recommend this route as im sure it will sound like ***.
then the mod that california emissions hates most... hi flow cat/catless. remove the cat. converter and bolt on a downpipe/hi-flow cat. this is probably the best exhaust mod i have down (test pipe) which is an exhaust piece that goes after your header to the catback. basically, its removing the cat converter and replacing it with straight pipes. if your state doesnt care for emissions and smog, this is a good choice to consider as well. check out the test pipe www.meganracing.com sells, its a nice piece for an affordable price.

i did the exact same thing as you did. i took a muffler and put it on with my stock piping. it was sooooooo quiet! i hated that so i went to a muffler shop and got my resonator removed for 35 bucks. it sounds A LOT better now and i just love it. i've heard of some people doing this and it makes their car sound like a weedwacker but mine is deep and loud.
Get a 17'' bullet resonator or a 12" if you want it even louder. I have an HKS Hi-Power Axle Back and added a 17" bullet resonator and it drastically improved the sound. I just took the HKS off to sell it because I'm selling my car and my resonator with custom 2" piping back to the stock muffler almost sounds exactly like the HKS exhaust did before I added the resonator. By they way if you want my HKS exhaust I'm selling it and it sounds great without having to add a resonator. Check out my thread in the for sale section.
My penis is just like all my posts, very very short

Hey! Look At Me!! I'm a Supporting Member!! coffe can
megan racing down pipe a lone makes a huge difference. my muffler wasnt loud at all until i installed my downpipe and make my muffler sound loud. header will make it louder too and make the exhaust tone a little bit deeper.
If i replaced the Headers, downpipe, and ran 2.25" piping back to the Muffler would that make it sound good?
Also would this be what i need?
Megan racing headers

Megan Racing Hi Flow Catalytic Converter, a test Pipe or Resonator

Do i need anything less? Any other piping to go back to the muffler?
Would this sound good?

hmm....the downpipe itself will make your car loud. header and the downpipe will do fine. i wouldnt go with 2.25 inch custom piping. that may make your car tooo loud. trust me...i only have a muffler, megan racing downpipe, aem short ram intake and my car already getting on my nerves cuz its so loud.
Do i need an O2 Simulator? I would like to have the headers for show and performance, does adding Intake, Headers, Downpipe, and Piping back to the muffler add any horsepower at all? I know prolly not much but how much though.
Wice? What in the world are you talking about? Why is it? I'm asking a question i want answered.

I know prolly not much but how much though. by installing that megan test pipe, you dont HAVE to get an 02 sim but you can. by installing that megan downpipe/test pipe, your CEL light (or malfunction indicator lamp) will go on but it doesnt harm the car/engine. its just telling you your secondary o2 sensor is reading bad signal as more flow is comming thru there. idk if it can make you run lean/rich/etc. but ive had no problem at all. their was probably one day my fuel was horrible but that was probably because of other special things ive done with the car.
adding header, intake, downpipe, and exhaust will show a noticeable improvement of power, but some low end is loss as you are replacing the intake which is known to lose low end but give mid-high end. my best educated guess of gains would be from 3-6hp for all those bolt ons...sad huh?
but there was a member who had bolt ons and a flywheel and short shifter whom made a little over 112whp(?) on the dyno which is quite impressive?if your gonna go with all those mods, i suggest hooking up a resonator if you dont want your car to sound like ***. you can use the factory resonator but idk if its been done and if its a wise choice.
before you buy anything, i highly suggest to research the product before purchase. fyi, you have other options of header/intake/exhaust/piping/resonator/etc. but megan racing makes good affordable products IMO

Wouldn't the Megan Racing Hi Flow Catalytic Converter, a test Pipe or Resonator, be the resonator?if your gonna go with all those mods, i suggest hooking up a resonator if you dont want your car to sound like ***. you can use the factory resonator but idk if its been done and if its a wise choice.
^the megan test pipe is called a 'resonator' because its not a true hi flow cat. its just a downpipe that replaces your OEM cat with nothing, therefore making your car catless.
the resonator thats located after the OEM cat converter and before the axel back muffler is a true resonator. sorry for misconfusion.
that megan down pipe is also known as a test pipe, resonator, hi flow cat, downpipe, etc.

I found on truehonda.com HP Racing Special H26 Full header + cat and it comes with an O2 Simulator, all for 280.00 with free shipping. Would this make it louder? And do what i want it to do. Do you lose power when you add headers and exhaust?
^thats a good choice of header. the full race header replaces your stock header, downpipe, AND cat with a straight thru pipe.
yes, it would make your exhaust/muffler louder because more air flow is comming thru the header/downpipe and most of all, theres no cat converter to restrict airflow. by adding that full race header, your car would see a noticeable gain but nothing major. idk about losing power, but im sure full race headers are probably the best bolton mod you can do with our civics.

IT says that it has the Full Header and the cat converter comes with it. It has an O2 simulator with it. Is that right?

Chrome Header For Civic 2001 4-1 Race / High Flow Cat
and with an 02 Sim Box. This header puts out good gains and is meant for off road use only.
The H26 Race header will outflow any header on the market for the D17. With its matched high flow cat there are no restrictions and just 100% awsome flow. This header is good for about 7-8whp on the D17 SOHC which is a very big number! match that with any exhuast and your doing about 14whp on top just from exhaust parts alone!

wow, there is so much gay in this thread its rediculous. have fun with your rice, you homo.

Man, whats your deal? I'm just asking about headers and exhaust, how is this rice? Why even say something?

how about no. there's enough loud exhausts out there that we don't need any more. Originally Posted by drew22mader
