Stupid question about exhaust....

I just got a used Tanabe Super Medallion Racing Cat-back Exhaust. I received it and saw that the silencer was installed in it. How do I remove the silencer from the muffler. I figured it had something to do with that bolt on the tip but I removed that and nothing moved. I am a little stuck here. Thanks for your help.

The silencer is probaby just stuck in there... normally it's just the bolt that holds it in.
Get a coat hanger and bend the tip so it'll fit down the silencer... then just hook it and start yanking that **** out.

yeah, the silencers are reallllly stuck in there, you have to yank it pretty hard. i sliced my finger doing it last time, so be careful, maybe wear gloves even.

Do I have to take that bolt out to remove it? Also, just to make sure that the silencer is in there, am I able to basically see through the muffler. The inside looks like teh following ebay aution minus the slant tip.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...969409575&rd=1

If you look into the tip it looks like the one in the 1st picture. Let me know if that is the silencer. I think it is but I want someone elses word.

Ya you have to take out the bolt first.... the bolt is what's holding it in. Then after that it's just probably stuck so you have to reef on it to get it out.

Thanks for the info....I will give a try after work. Should I spray some wd40 or something like that to try and loosen it.

I tried and tried and tried.....

There is no budging to this silencer. It is really stuck in there good. I tried the coat hanger and that did not work. What do you think are my other options.

heat up the muffler with some hwy driving. then spray the silencer with some water to cool it. the expanded muffler and shrunk silencer should make it easier. Use gloves.

^^Gloves? More like oven mitts LOL. What i did was take out the bolt & put it on backwards (put it inside the silencer NOT goting through the muffler) but only a few threads. Then use the bolt to twist the silencer around. I was able to get mine out this way by just twisting & pulling. Good luck.

I am not really understanding what you are saying. My silencer is already in there stuck. I received it that way.

just put it on the car with the silencer still on. Once it's on start your car up and drive it around the block or let it run for 10 mins... the heat generated by the exhaust will probably pop it loose.

Thats what I plan on doing. Did you use a coat hanger or something else.

the heating up from driving, then spraying water just on the silencer should work. heat makes the metal expand, the water will cool down the silencer making it shrink back to normal, small silencer, bigger hole, should work. give it a shot.
