Keezay, look at the $ he has into it.

He is bored .2 over, ported, polished, cams, rods, oversized valves, custom IM, header, EMU, ITB..............That is serious $$ to get 150 WHP with minimal expansion room. Not to mention the D15 and D16 are more openly supported by the aftermarket unlike the D17. With the limitation of availibility of parts and such, the D17 is a rough candidate for all-motor at this time. The D17 has been out for 4 years almost 5 and STILL has next to no aftermarket presence for REAL performance parts. They are JUST now beginning to inch out years later. All motor is VERY expensive and often more expensive than turbo or supercharged. Examples are all over the place. Look into some stroker kits for B18s, K20, 2JZGE......Look at the price of turbo kits then compare dynos/$ spent.

THAT is why I say what I say about the D17 being a poor choice for all motor at this time. Another 5 years, it may be a different story.

Also, you forgot I owned a D17 for 4 years proudly.....I have D17 love, but also am VERY realistic.

I decided while at the shop to go ahead and replace rings and pistons with a set I bought from Race Eng a while back. Since it was taking a while I stopped to check on my car and they had it torn down but hadn't started anything so I gave them the pistons and another head gasket to stack on top of the other. (lowers compression also) So looks like I will get my car back on thursday maybe. Thats if nothing else comes up. I guess thats what I get for going to my friends shop. He cuts me prices but I have to wait on him to do other jobs before mine. Anyway all they have to do is put everything back together and I should be ready to go. I'll keep you guys posted.

Great, can't wait to hear how things go. Stacking headgaskets? I know people do it, but I don't know how I feel about that. Hope everything works out.

ok i finally got to drive my car and i'm impressed with how hard the cam makes it pull. I still havn't had it dyno'd but hopefully soon. Every gear pulls so hard to around 6900 that it's almost unbelievable. If you have a turbo kit I would say get the turbo cam. It seems to be pulling so much harder and faster than before.

Tight! My EX head is on the way. I'm leaving the country for 2 weeks in June and then after that I'll have some charges on my credit card from Exospeed and Crower. I'm glad it worked out for you. Can't wait to see the dyno.

Ditto... And that's just scratching the surface - There was another D15B on HT with carbs that put out 160 or 170 whp.

Dezod - come on now, grow up. Lay off the shameless plugs to your kit; A simple 130whp is more desirable to some than a 170whp turbo D17 with more maintainance requirements and more parts that can fail. Don't try arguing that point... And to bring up the cost? That guy had a 1.5 that was worth pennies, he made the ITB's himself, he had a cam, some head work, pistons, and a shitty header. Engine management? Ghettodyne (FREE) and an Emanage ($300). Your turbo kit costs almost twice as much as he spent on his setup

****, my LS put out about 115 or 120 whp in stock form and it was still fun to drive.

First and foremost, it was not even close to an attempt for a plug for our kit.

The rational behind me saying that was the sole fact of lack of support for the D17 by aftermarket companies. Hence why I said this:

Your absolutely correct the motor is a 'throw away' motor worth MAYBE $200-300. THAT is even a stretch.

Pricing of the entire set-up was definitely more than $2K. The engine work alone (bore .2 over, port & polish) was probably $1500 or so from most engine shops with CHEAP rates. Assuming he spent about $300-400 for valves, $400 for the cam, guess..$200 (low ball) on the IM, cheap rods $400-500, e-manage $300....that's already over $3K into the set-up not counting the header or tuning done.

Understand my only disconcern with the D17 being all motor is lack of parts available. The D16 & 15 have tons of parts, easy to find and cheap. ALMOST everything engine wise for the D17 is custom, which costs $$$.

Reliability is crucial, but ANY HEAVY power mods are going to stress a system that was not designed to handle that type of power. Breakages can happen all motor, turbo, s/c, n2o......

All motor is also tough to expand upon unlike s/c or turbo. Up the boost w. proper fuel & spark accomodation and more power is acheived.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see an all motor D17 hitting 130-150 WHP, however unless right now you are a master car builder or have crazy $$ a D17 at this current time w/ lack of support of crucial engine components and such, probably will not happen. More support is needed. That is the bottom line.

Do not let me sway your decisions toward or against all motor. I will support you either way. To each his own....You make the payments, not me. You insure it, not me. You drive it day in and out, not me. Therefore you should please yourself.

Thank you.

I am not trying to argue or disprove anybody's credibility....just stating the obvious facts.
