Other D series trannys?

Does anyone else know if an older D series tranny will bolt up to the D17 block? I heard that the bolt pattern is the same.

I know that the shifter linkages and what not wont work, but will it bolt up? I have an awesome fab shop that will make custom linkages for me if the tranny will bolt up.

Now THAT would be nice. I'd love to have a real transmission in my car. That's the only issue I have with my 7th gen. I hope it's possible.

It is totally Possible because I bolted a D15b engine to my D17 gearbox and it worked perfect but what I had to do was use the flywheel from the D17 on the D15b block(the bolt pattern is the same on the D15b crank) because the OEM clutch disc on the D17 has 20 teeth and the D15b had 21 (the D15b clutch disc did not fit on the D17 spline). If you have any question you can ask me and I will help you.. If you need pics as well. The starter also lines up perfect..

I think they are the same because sometimes when you buy a new clutch, it says any D series engine.

robbclark1 didn't you read the post above????
A clutch from a D15b WILL NOT WORK on a D17 engine. However the flywheels have the same bolt pattern..... therefore you will have to use the specific clutch, pressure plate and flywheel for the various setups.. e.g.

SETUP REQUIRMENTS

D17 gearbox + D16Y8 engine -------> D17 clutch, pressure plate + flywheel.
D16Y8 gearbox + D17 engine -------> D16Y8 clutch, pressure plate + flywheel
D16z gearbox + D17 engine -------> D16z clutch, pressure plate + flywheel

etc....

Is this why you needed that flywheel measurement from me? Nice work

Oh I just noticed, all Honda SOHC clutch kits from 92+ are the same. Check ACT's website for details on it. www.advancedclutch.com

I think the D17 has shorter gears compared to the Y8.

the only problem might be is the shifter linkage cause i know the 7thgen has some kinda setup that is relatively new and not in the older model civics where the shifter assembly attached directly to the tranny in them as opposed to the linkage in the 7thgen.

Cable versus hydraulic tranny's. You WILL need to replace the shift linkage.

Longer is not better it's a myth. I'd trade my LS tranny for a GSR or Type R any day of the week. The faster you get through the gears the faster you get down the track
