O2 simulator worth it?

i'm about to install a kamikazi header and was wondering will the check engine light go on? if so will i have to get a O2 simulator...is it worth it? if the check engine light is on will it lessen the performance of the car? this is on a 2001 civic lx

"The motor will lean out the fuel mixture making the car seem faster, at first. Then after three drive cycles if the condition has not been fixed- which it wont with no cat- the car will trigger a MIL.

When the MIL is triggered, the car will then change to a rich running condition in safety mode. The computer will also retard the timing and will do several other things to reduce the performance of the car in order to reduce smog output and make sure the motor does not blow up.

It may also effect the warranty of the vehicle if driven in safety mode over a long period of time.

The car will eventually run slower if the check engine light is not addressed.

The car may be faster at first, but in time it will not run correctly.
This is a FACT."

After all, Just get O2 sim and be happy.

if you have to remove the o2 sensor then make sure there is a place for it on the the header other wise just the header shouldn make it go on. I have an ex and with just the header i didnt get the engine light.

I just installed my highflow cat and I MIL came on after about 30 miles!
I have a A\f gauge and so far it seems to be running fine and I cant notice a difference if it did go into limp mode? When chillin at a light what does your a\f read? Mine normaly is in orange and moves around a little bit!
Any more updates?

Ok Heres Some updates i found on Clubrsx.
I have been researching ,because i am going to put race header shortly and it will throw CEL.

Seems like, Most of o2 sim work fine exception of few.
There were many times CEL come on and off occasionly even with O2 sim.

I have decided to just run race header without o2 sim.
I will just drive around with CEL light on until i can afford to upgrade to hondata kpro(options for kseries motors..)

One member from clubrsx had o2 sim and ended up with fried ecu couple months later.

in limp mode that you get if the first o2 sensor is bad or reading incorrectly it will not let you rev higher than 3000

Well I reset the ecu and the a/f gauge read like normal! Rich at 80% throttle. WHen idling when bouce from from lean to rich and not stay there for long at all. ANd some time when I let off the gas there would be no reading....
So Seems to be so far the the check engine light has not messed up my af gague reading? I installed the a\f gauge to the o2 sensor by my ex header.
Would it be better if i ran it to the ecu?

Where did you buy the ex extended O2 sensor wire? Or is this the one for EX application and we, DX/LX owners, call it extended?

I'm waiting for the EX Header to arrive. Everything else is here.

Did you get the EX front swaybar also? If not, then you need it.

Does your EX downpipe has a cat? I bought the RandomTech hi-flow along with magnaflow, if you must ask.

Can someone please tell me what and where to get the so called EX extended O2 sensor wire mentioned by our member Civic_Racer9?

Is this just the O2 sensor wire for the EX model? And, we LX owners, call it 'extended' since it extends to the bottom of the EX cat?

Thank you.

I wasnt looking at the o2 sim. I was looking at the extended o2 wires which is $27 including the new end-connector.

But someone talked me into buying a wire to use as an extension.

Well something weird but cool happened tonite
I leaving work and got in my car and put the key in it. Then I started my car and to my amazment there was no check engine light? I have a
tsudo cat back, cai ,obx header, I had no problem with check eninge light Butwhen I got my highflow cat It poped on in under 35miles . Reset the ecu for the second time and it came on under 20 lol. So I put about maybe 1500 miles on my car with the light on..... But I got off work and no check engine light I just got a oil change about 500 miles before but other than that the only other thing I did to my car was put the whole back interior back in lol! When I drove to work I am somewhat sure if it was on. But knowing me I should have noticed it lol
I hope the light does not come back on....

Ok update the light came back on but this time after 80+ miles of driving.
My friend has a obd2 reader and said that he erased the code or something.
The hookup for it was right under by the steeering wheel.

The OBX and Kamikaze headers for the LX Civics are not worth it. They dont have a place for the cat. You cant move the cat either cuz the ecu will record the errors and for those of you who do get their inspections you will have a hard time passing with all of those error codes on your ecu. O2 sensor or no O2 sensor, it aint worth it. Besides they are only worth about 7 hp. Dont waste your money and effort on it.

Hey guyz I have an update on the situation with the OBX and Kamikaze headers. I talked to both companies and they said there is no way to customize the setup to be smog and carb legal. All that stuff about Ex conversions is obsolete. You cannot move your cat. to another location cuz the computer is programed to operate with the cat where it is. If you move it your computer will not operate correctly and your car's performance will decline. If you dont care about passing inspections or getting tickets for smog violations than do what you want to do but be advised that you are going to run into alot of problems down the road. Even if it doesnt seem to be causing problems immediately after installing, it will eventually. Not to mention that these headers wont give you much if any hp boost at all. About the only thing they will do is make your exhaust sound a tad louder and more grumbly but to me that isnt worth the trouble of getting it to operate properly.
