Best brand of air intake??

I want to know which intake is going to give a 01 civic dx(automatic), the most significant increase in power. Is it aem, injen, etc.? Is it short ram, CAI? THX.

That's like asking which is better Ford or Chevy, all depends on who you ask and what they have. 9 times outta 10 someone with brand "A" won't say that brand "B" is better. I have the K&N FIPK, I like it a lot, but they only make it for the EX, sorry I couldn't have been more help.

there is no best

they all do the same thing, and it's really your personal preferences that decides whichone is better

and none of them will give you significant increase of power

Is FIPK II really only for EX? I've heard a lot of people say that now. I thought every Civic had the same stock airbox and therefore it would work on everything. No?

I like the stock airbox best. It has the most low-end power and it's quiet. Had an AEM SRI and got tired of it.

Got a generic SRI. It ain't bad but like it was said above it's just a matter of preference.

Nope. K&N FIPK II has just a little bit more, see?

Okay but it's still noisy. If you don't mind the sound, get the FIPK. Best gains out of all of them.

Racer Design

I have a racer desing intake, I think it is pretty tight. I think it sounds really nice, plus it has more pull in our sad fifth gear.

Unfortunately, there are only 3 catagories of air intakes for our cars:

1) Ones that decrease your power/torque. Short-rams, especially no-name brand ones, are notorious for this.

2) Ones that offer little or no performance gain. By far most air intakes fall in this catagory. Obviously the stock air-box falls in this catagory. If you think about it, they stock airbox probably gives you the best trade-off between power and noise. It's dead quiet and offers consistent torque.

3) Ones that offer marginal performance gains. The AEM CAI, K&N FIPK and a few offers will increase your horsepower and your torque to a lesser degree. But keep in mind that we are talking about <5hp here at the wheels. That equates to a total increase of around 5%. Can you feel that? Maybe. My track slips indicated that my 1/4 mile time went down by about 0.2 seconds after installing the AEM CAI.

The underlying problem is that our engines weren't designed to take advantage of a less restrictive air intake. Pretty much the only benefits you'll get are a cool sound, the option to clean the filter rather then replace it and a slight increase in power.

Dollar for dollar you're probably better off keeping them money in your wallet or putting it towards a more effective power mod (Nitrous or if you are a little crazier, or richer, a forced air intake kit).

I myself am looking into the FIPK, mainly because it offers one of the best gains out there and keeps the air filter at the top of the engine bay. CAI's tend to have their filters close to the ground which can cause problems. I'm not talking about the "sucking in water" myth. Like I said I had the AEM CAI for about a year. After driving with it in the winter for one season the filter was literally caked with dirt and salt. Not good.

It's up to you - read up on the reviews and other posts, I guess!

Its all the same more or less. I had an injen cai on an automatic lx and my butt dyno thinks there was a bit more power. It sounded damm cool however If you can justify a 200 dollar intake for asthetics and a marginal performance gain, go for it.

I had an AEM CAI and traded it for the K & N FIPK II. I noticed more low end torque with
the K& N FIPK II. Also, the AEM CAI has a lot of piping to go through and gets hot to
the touch due to radient engine temperatures. The K & N FIPK II stayes cool from its thick
plastic and sounds a bit more deeper than the AEM.

get the K & N FIPK II....best intake in my opinion.

K&N FIPK II sounds exactly the same as stock until you get to 4k rpm, and from there until redline it's louder. So, you never hear it unless you're accelerating quickly or unless you're in too low of a gear and you're cruising at like 5k rpm, but why would you do that?
