AEM Version2 Cold Air vs Injen Short Ram
AEM Version2 Cold Air vs Injen Short Ram
hey guys and girls i have a dilemma, i have a 2001 honda civic dx and im planning to add a intake to my ride soon. The Problem is i dont know which would be more benetficial and which would be a waste of money. The two intakes im considering are the AEM V2 for a automatic and the Injen Short Ram Intake for a automatic. My friend has a Short Ram Injen Intake on his EX and it sounds nice and he says his car revs faster but i cant see any real performance gains. Any help with this problem will be greatly appreciated thanks

i was originally gonna do the v2 intake route, but after a lot of reading on this site, found that intake to be all but hype, and it performs the same as the v1 cold air intake (or so i believe). i didnt wanna go the cold air intake route out of fear of hydrolock, and i'm gonna do a turbo setup when i'm financially able to and all of the pre-turbo mods have been done to my car. right now i'm about to get a weapon-r dragon intake, because i've heard good things about it. other than that, its personal preference. i'm sure other people on this site will lead you to the good way to go. i just felt like giving my 2¢

info on it and official website: www.weapon-r.com/intakes.html
cheapest place i found it ($165 shipped): www.dragonintakes.com
from what i've heard, it increases gas mileage by allowing air to more easily get to your engine instead of going through the whole resonator box/stock filter element. however, it also increases horsepower a little, which would cause your mileage to decrease, so you'd prolly end up evening out with your mileage unless you didnt utilize your extra 'gains'

most likely gas mileage go down from stock airbox. btw v2 is garbage. overrated.

i got an ebay "racing" intake for $75, and i think I have a tiny bit more low-end torque, but not much. My MPG is also identical to before, but I really like the sound...very sporty, and racy (not ricey, racy). Also, I've heard that the Dragon intakes' filter is a sponge...and doesnt filter well at all. I'm probably going to get a k&n filter for my intake, but I've heard (not direct experience, mind you), tha the Weapon-R filters are crap and need to be replaced almost immediately.

dont get the Injen SRI. its an intake that wasn't researched and developed.
WAIT for the AEM V2 for the DX/LX, then I can give u some input about it. It should be different from the AEM V2 for the EX.
DONT get the Weapon R intake.. its crap. It only recently started to get more people talking about it cuz new people into the scene read that stupid article by that stupid magazine that Weapon R came out on top on intake comparison. (they're all the same, really) And Weapon R was so happy that they finally came out on top on SOMETHING that they mass market that particular article to no ends.
Remember, it wasn't even on our application. A few members have tried the Weapon R/Dragon Intake long ago, and it didn't fit correctly. Whether they got the wrong intake send to them or whatever, Weapon R filters are known to screw up overtime.
I recommend the AEM SRI VI for DX/LX, cuz it isn't terribly expensive, and there's some R&D behind that design that I support.
next I'll recommend the K&N FIPK (If u had ex, that would have been the first thing I recommend)
truthfully they all give the same amount of power really, can't gain much from the D17, but its my opinion that the AEM V2 SRI for the DX/LX would be the best option for DX/LX members.
(ah, this is cuz we're not talking about CAI here... but personally I'm not a fan of CAI anyway, really all the same crap in our situation.)

i like my aem v2 intake when i first put it on i think it sounds great and there is an improved response, but it really cuts down on gas milegage compared to the stock intake, why dont go with the injec cai that was made for an automatic?
why does everyone always recommend the fipk, i havn't even heard about it until i came to this board, i had an aem cai on my si and i really liked it, now i have an aem sri on my ex and i think i'd be happier with a cai but i don't have enough money to get one right now

Cap Yoda, what do you mean you'd recommend the FIPK if he had an EX? Doesn't it work on any trim?
Btw I totally recommend FIPK. No complaints from me. No low end torque loss.

i have a weapon r intake and i have to say i'm rather pleased with it.. only beef i have is the placement of the sensor hole.. and the hella ghetto bracket you have to bend youself.. other than that, i've felt a slight gain in the lower rpms, and more of a gain in the upper rpms, and my mpg is almost identical..

The metal intakes, like AEM and Ingen, will look good but take away low end power. I think an intake is a waste, but if you have to get one, FIPK gives the most gain with minimal loss. When I had an AEM SRI, I gained 2mpg.
I would go with CAI because the filter is close to the ground and away from most of the heat if you go with short ram you are sucking in alot of heat from the motor and everyone knows that cold air is better than hot air, and if you are worried about water sucking up into your filter then buy the bypass filter I've seen them test it and you can have your whole filter underwater and nothig will happen to your car saw at hot import nights once, but you can only get it with the AEM company unless otherwise, about the V2 intake I don't really care for it I would stick to the regular AEM CAI
I changed from aems original cai to the v2. I think the v2 is pretty damn good. Its called cai but its only as long as a ram. So u get cai air without having to relocate to the bottom of ur engine. which sucks when it rains.
well, I havn't had any problems with my CAI, I've driven in rain conditions, over puddles, pot holes with water and nothing happens but I live in South Cali I don't know how bad the weather is out there, or what you can do is have a CAI, then when it rains shorten it so that you have ram air thats what all my friends do with their cars when it rains really bad
