worthless upgrades?
I just bought a brand new to me '02 Civic. She's bone stock and 'a gorgeous. But...is it just me or does it seem like a lot of people who bolt on air induction and exhausts turn right around and remove 'em?

Sometimes.. Some people just get annoyed with they way they sound . . lol . A lot of the cheap @$$ stuff I put on, I've taken off. But I havne't done any real mods, just dumb stuff that I realized was ricey and pulled it off. Check out my profile for my list of things that I have vowed not to do to my car.

I did the same thing with an AEM intake. It got annoying and I took it off. I'll always keep my thermal exhaust cause it's quiet and looks good.

In terms of intakes, I think most people who get the K&N FIPK2 are quite happy with the fitment / performance that this kit provides.
Yes, from 4000 RPM up the sound is slightly annoying, but it does give acceleration a bit more punch.

suspension is the way to go. Its fairly easy to setup our civics to corner like a champ

Out of all my mods so far, I agree the best ones were the suspension/wheel/tire related ones. You can't beat the value you get from the RSX-S rear sway...$80 used and makes the car feel much more solid and handle like a dream
The only thing I've done engine-wise is the FIPK...and it is NOT retarded, IMO...unless better fuel economy, better performance (however little it is), better looks and lifetime usage from the filter are retarded!

lease: oh yea, and better performance? ha.....if you can really tell a difference between +3 or 4 more hp max then good...it was prolly worth the money....but most people cant feel that little of a difference....plus you prolly lost torque...and i want my torqueless wonder to keep as much as i can

actually from what i've heard on this site, the K&N FIPK 2 is the only intake that maintains low end torque while still giving you highend HP. so in terms of intakes, this is the best one for our cars

I doubt if it maintains low-end torque, and it's still noisy anyway. Try driving uphill for more than a few minutes and I bet you'll get sick of the noise real quick. I've given up on engine mods. All I have is a K&N drop in and a ground wire kit. At least if you spend money on the exterior, people will see it.

As for the torque, it really depends on what type of driving you do. I care more about top end power cause my driving style when I autocross is to keep it in as low a gear as possible. In terms of real life driving, I just downshift if I need that extra passing power on the highway. But to each their own I guess...
And for some strange reason my economy HAS improved...but maybe I'm giving the intake too much credit for this one...maybe it's another factor I'm not thinking of that helped me at the same time I installed the kit (like engine break-in or change in gas used or something)
I'm really not THAT gung-ho about defending this mod, as I know I must seem - like I said, my fave mods are suspension related - but I think it deserves credit as one of the few well engineered, well manufactured bolt on engine mods out there for our cars. It is NOT retarded.
And as for "we should've gotten RSX's"....well, you can trade your 'vic in, but I LOVE mine

the computer compancates for the abundance of air and leans the fuel even more. you do get better gas millage. plus the engine is not "gasping" for air.

I dump money into my car like an idiot and I'm loving it.
Do I own the fastest car? Nope... Do I own the nicest looking car? uhh... probably not. But that's not why I put money into it. This is a hobby for me and I love distinguishing my car from other civics.

Zzyzx is right... autocross is the way to go. he and boilermaker1 got me into auto-x and its a lot better than racing in a little straight line. with a couple of suspension mods (depending on how far you are willing to go) you can make out little civic handle great. Look around for the autocross threads and see what im talking about. Its the most fun you can have in a 7th gen!

BAH mine is awesome too....Its plastic (heat resistant) just like the K&N and its super inlet allows for alot of air flow!

haha..i was expecting this reply from you too! lol yup, suspension modding is the way to go!! god i love beating slow *** cars on turns, makes your car look so cool, LOL Tune the suspension, sway bars, try to tune the engine so it is a bit more responsive, port and polish, intakes. That might help a bit, but to be honest with out forced induction (Turbo, nitrous) there is not much power we can squeeze out of the D series engine. Which is a very old platform dating back to the late 80s.
i dont trust dynos easilly without a tps log
then youd be running lean, and the engine would run hot, and **** would start to melt, you always need more fuel with more air

honestly, in my opinion, most things on our cars are worthless. If i could start all over, i would just put on an exhaust, light weight wheels, B+G coilovers (which i have now), and a turbo. bolt ons do not do much for our cars, and i really wish that when i got the car i would have just saved up for a turbo right from the start

And I am offended to an extent by the retarded comment. Not to just my car, but to the use of the word itself.
oh yeah and by the way, i win.
i own a civic because they get good gas mileage, are extremely reliable, and look pretty good...the same reason the majority of the world buys them for....if i wanted fast, i wouldnt buy a civic, even the si, there are much better ccars built for speed in the price range..a civic is an ECONOMY CAR...simple as that..

Well, my civic only gets 20mpg, but I still like the way it looks. Adding exterior mods will turn more heads than another stock car that is just fast.
