k&n FIPK II, noises

I have had my K&N FIPK II for about 3 mths now (lx coupe 5 spd manual)...it runs great. However, it has made a noise about three times since i got it...the noise sounds like a back fire almost pretty loud (in the engine bay).....the first time it happened i was driving hard, the sound happens only when i am off the gas pedal. the 2nd and 3rd time it happened i was just crusin...but in all 3 cases it happened when i let off the gas, to change gear (up shift).

has this happened to anyone else? what could be causing it, and should i be worried? i really aprreciate your guys input. thanx

I had that same noise on my injen intake in my Saturn. Every now and then it would almost sound like someone was under my hood hitting it with a hammer. I thought it was a backfire at first. I also thought it could have been the intake thumping around, but not so since it was bracketed in place.

I think the reason is simply almost like a backfire but from the intake if thats possible. Where the air caught in the tube is forced back out so it pops. Im just guessin here but I had this happen to me and it never damaged anything.

I dont think its the plugs either though. I had a set of 8mm SPS wires and NGK-V spark plugs and it still did it.
