Yeah if I had the money I'd drop a k20 in my civic...but then again why not just buy the RSX-s to begin with? But different people have different opinions when it comes to their cars. Take me for instance, I just want a nice Civic show car...with hella exterior and interior mods...and some engine mods (CAI, turbo kit, etc) I don't plan to race my car...i just want a sweet civic with a little bit more pep than the other fellow civics out there

IMO both has K20 and D17 has its own advantage. D17 is kind of a VTEC-E engine(or hybrid(E+VTEC?) or 3stage(E+SOHC+VTEC)?), and K20, DOHC i-VTEC, after research through the web, is actually a DOHC VTEC-E with variable cam timing control on the INTAKE SIDE only...(wat da...)...I have no idea on what's on the exhaust side.
But SOHC engines are supposed to work good at low and mid rpm better than DOHC engines. If properly tuned, a SOHC with the same power of a DOHC will take off faster imo. If I have max power at 5000 rpm who will wait for the DOHC to have max power at 7800?

you can make any engine as powerful as you want, just talk to the right people and have the right money.... i remember reading somewhere that in the 60's, when dyno's topped out at 2000hp, someone (dunno who, sorry, maybe ferrari) built a 2.0 4 cyl that had 2000hp, but the dynos topped at 2000hp... just a matter of will and funds... however, different engines have different responses and ranges, but id rather have an aluminum 427 twin turbo, call me crazy

Well, I was about to cite the AEM/DriverFX Civic as an example of how fast a heavily modded D17 can be, but then I realized it's powered by a 3.0L NSX engine. Oh well, I'd get a K20 if I had limitless funds, but as it is, I'll just be saving up for a turbo.

if i had limitless money, first i would build the d17 as far as reality would let it go, then id go to the k20 and do the same

It seems like this crap (the +20 thing) is basically the plug-in to the temperature sensor, making the ECU always think it is cold.

Also it seems like this thing is to plug in to the intake temperature instead. I think if you bypass the thottle body heater it may be better to plug a resistor in the sensor also(to make sure no current passes thru the heater, because nobody knows if there's moving part in the heater and may be CEL comes up?)
All are just my opinion.

Keep on dreaming, a bored and turbo'd k20 will destroy your 85 lb lighter featherweight like there is no tomorrow, even w/ your .1 liter displacement increase.

thanks to the magic of japanese mechanical knowhow, we can now fit a complete second cam and 300cc increase into a tiny chip!

Um...no chance that works. A built, sprayed, bosted D can be pretty quick but not a $4 chip. And by the way, K's rule. I like my D but I have no ilusions about it beating a K for horsepower or torque. If i am going to take a K powered car, it's going to happen in a corner where the balance of the em2 gives me a slight advantage. Even then I am going to have to drive my a** off to stay ahead of K power on a straight. But on the upside, D17 takes regular gas, K20a2 only takes premium, so I get a bigger weight advantage cause I dont have to cary around loads of gas money. Haha ok I'm done now.
