2013 Honda Civic Coupe

I purchased a new 2013 Honda Civic in July.
From the beginning the key didn't slide in & out of the ignition easily. I told my Honda salesman & he said to try some silicone spray, which didn't help.
A couple of months later, my wife when finished walking tried putting the key in the ignition with great difficulty she finally got it in. When she g2013ot home in the garage, she could not get the key out.
When I got it home, I finally got it out by wiggling it. Then I called my Honda dealer & they said to bring it in. I said I would if I could get the key back in. I got it started after much wiggling.
They replaced the ignition & replaced the 3 keys.
The new ignition & keys still didn't work as good as some other 2013 Civics in the lot.
Last week my wife got back from walking & she couldn't get the key in the ignition. when I got back I finally got the key in & got it started. Since then I have not taken the key out the ignition until I took the back to Honda dealer.
The technician said this is definitely not acceptable.
So they are going to call Honda on Monday.
Doesn't this sound strange that this happening to a new key & ignition?

Re: 2013 Honda Civic Coupe

I purchased a new 2013 Honda Civic in July.
It's under warranty, let the dealer take care of it.

From the beginning the key didn't slide in & out of the ignition easily.
I have not heard any complaints at all, not until they are just plain worn out.

IMO Hondas "sidewinder" locks might feel a little bit different from a regular key and lock (depends on what you are used to).
They can be damaged by someone using force or maybe jamming a key in at a wrong angle.
I've seen them damaged by a poorly cut key.
They are a little finicky but work well if you are gentle.... but once damaged they don't work well (same as almost anything that gets damaged).

If you now have had 2 different sets of locks and keys that fail to work.......the problem may not be the car or the locks.

How much weight is on your keyrings?
Keys damaged or bent? It sure doesn't take much to cause problems.

They replaced the ignition & replaced the 3 keys.
Did they replace the rest of the lock set too?
If you now have to carry and use more than one key, someone could have tried to stuff the wrong key in the ignition. That might have damaged the lock.

Flood car.
Insurance claim as a total loss.

That means any factory warranty should have been cancelled.
