To turbo or not to turbo?

I have the opportunity to buy a 95 civic vx hatchback with a turbo. I was just wondering if it is difficult maintaining a turbo civic? Anything else I would need for this setup? I just have never owned a turbo car but I have owned civics. Any input would be great. I will attach the link below with the craigslist posting. I have talked to the owner and he is a tech at a high end import shop and and I checked it all out.

Wow, it actually looks decent, wasn't expecting that.

Here's my take..
It's been built properly with quality parts by the looks of the mod list and should be hitting around 300whp, but a turbo is very hard on any engine. The car being tracked just makes the situation worse, every single component has been abused. If your just looking for a reliable daily driver, but think this would be fun then I would pass. If your prepared for a lot of maintenance then go for it.

Re: To turbo or not to turbo?

turbos, even on stock cars, require more maint and money to keep them going. aftermarket turbo really needs to be done right and even then with a good tune, its possible you will need cash standing by to fix things that break. you also have to consider the people that put turbos on cars. usually its the ones who race and beat the car, not those who daily drive normally (who wouldnt consider a turbo anyway). most of it seems legit, but some details worry me like why he had to change the headgasket in the first place and what kind he used.

Changing/upgrading the headgasket is pretty standard for a turbo'd car.

Re: To turbo or not to turbo?

notice one thing from the replies. there are a lot of "should be ok" "shouldn't be a problem" and "most likely" it comes down to what you want the car for. For a daily driver that you will likely have to do extra maintenance on it or for a hot rod that you will be doing a lot of maintenance on. Your call your money
