Re: vtec or not?

Wiki is a great source of information:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_D_engine

I'll add a bit to this. From the research I've done D16Y7 is a non vtec out of 1996-2000 civics. Which explains why its out of a 97. VTEC valve covers say VTEC on them. if yours doesnt say VTEC, it's not VTEC... Take a picture of your engine bay and someone here might be able to tell you what your head is.

Re: vtec or not?

lol not all vtec motors have valve covers that say VTECH, i know i have a d16y7 block (non- vtec) andi have a d16z6 head (Vtec), i just dont know what intake manifold i have but ive been told its a y8 but i cant find any y8's with the casting code P2K IPT - 2 on them.

Re: vtec or not?

Hmm I didn't know that... post a picture on here and someone might be able to tell you... I haven't personally seen a VTEC without it being written on the valve cover lol!

Re: vtec or not?

Yep, just look for the vtec solonoid, biggest sign, if you dont see it anywhere near the block, then its not a VTEC

Re: vtec or not?

It's funny how often that happens here... Just shows you how often Honda motors get swapped out.
