He's selling for want of a $20-30 relay? Sounds kinds fishy.
I tend to stay away from swaps as a general rule. You just don't know how well they were done.
If you're asking those questions I would have to assume you don't know anything about repairing this car. At the least you would need a service manual.
Also, either he doesn't know what year he has or it's a "1988" but, is really a 1987 and a half. I used to have a 1987 and a half and there are a lot of parts that were made only for that half model year so, you're gonna have a very hard time sourcing parts.
My recommendation is to stay away.

Re: 1989 Civic hatch Main relay ?
FWIW and all too late surely here is what I know about the relay problem. This a very well known problem in those years CRX and Civics. The general symptoms are just like vapor lock. Car runs fine in Winter and even Summer till you drive it and park it on a hot day. Come back out and it won't start until you "grind the flood away". That's what it feels and acts like even though it's injected. Change the main relay and problem simply goes away. A very aggravating problem to try to solve as it's intermittent and temp related........Cheap to fix though.
I hope this helps someone somewhere fix theirs someday...
