Car stalls when i press the brake.
Car stalls when i press the brake.
Honda Civic 1994 DX. 1.5. d15b.
Car stalls when i press the brake. it doesnt happen all the time. doesnt happen I'm driving and pressing the brake. It stalls when I come to a red light or stop sign and press the brake or switch the car from Drive to Reverse. Happens more often when its warm/hot outside.
Could it be the brake booster?

engine does not have power to keep going in idle.
What maintenance have you done?
can't remember, was the ignition advance vacuum controlled?

Automatic transmission? Could it be the lock-up torque converter if it dies like a manual when you forget to put the clutch in.
If it happens when you press the brakes stopped or moving then it could be a vacuum leak through the booster. Do you brakes feel hard? You could remove the vacuum line to the booster and plug it to test. If the problem goes away you need a new booster.
I also second the maintenance comment. When was the last time plugs, cap, rotor, wires, filters, etc have been done? Good to rule out, but if it accelerates fine and only runs rough when you hit the brakes it's likely the booster. If it runs fine till you stop completely then it's the torque converter. If it's intermittent bad running then some of the other maintenance items should be considered.

stalls only when i press the brake (and in drive). never when im driving. the maintenance has been done. I've been having the stall issue for years now. it was very rare, but recently got worse.
Also, do i need to use the Brake Booster Pushrod pin Adjustment Tool when replacing the booster?
