Mechanical Problems/Vehicle Issues and Fix-it ForumIf you've got a problem you just can't figure out, a noise you can't diagnose, or a Check Engine Light that won't go away, ask about it here!
I have a 1999 civic EX swapped with a D15B from a 1993 civic DX. I can’t figure out what sensor this is. Have looked everywhere in the Haynes manual and can’t figure it out. Anybody know what sensor it is? Picture from Haynes manual but doesn’t say what the sensor is. Sensor on my car(same as other photo)
I THINK it's for the temp gauge. I think it registers from that....
or its the coolant sensor...
Well I know the coolant temperature sensor is directly behind this one, they both broke when I replaced the clutch disc, pressure plate and flywheel, when we were trying to put the transmission back onto the engine. I fixed the one plug, the one I’m trying to figure out and my temperature gauge and fan didn’t work, so I checked the manual and directly behind that sensor is the temp sensor, fixed that one and now everything works, I was only curious as to what the one in the front is???

you may be right, they both may work together to activate the fan, temp gauge and the one in the front may be the actual temperature sensor. I looked in the manual again and found in the beginning that an arrow pointed to the sensor I’m trying to figure out and said it was the coolant temperature sensor, but later in the section it points to the one behind it and says coolant temp sensor so they both may be part of the same system. Thank you for your input!

the guy I bought the car from said he wired it himself and it’s just a freakin rats nest of wires under the hood...got my hands full with this one but 20 years old and absolutely no rust anywhere on the car, that’s why I bought it for a project car.
You're welcome man. I have a 95 civic ex 1.6. Its my understanding they're the same from 92 to 95. I found somewhere online there are 3 parts to the coolant sensor deal. The one off the thermostat housing controls the main fan, one under the distributor is for the gauge, and one next to that is the actual coolant sensor. Dude I got my civic from cut the harness connector for the one on the thermostat housing....anyway, that's just what I found. If I'm wrong maybe someone will chime in and correct me.
