Re: seafoam?

I would not, not without a good reason, and your stated reason does not sound good or worthwhile to me.

There will always be carbon in the exhaust.

But you're probably gonna do it anyway.

Re: seafoam?

Seafoam is to de-carb cylinder walls, piston heads and valves.

You would not be able to see this from the tail pipe since the carbon cooks into the metal (that's why you should remove it).

What you are most likely seeing is burning oil.

Do you see dark or blue smoke? (If so that is common on old engines and you are burning oil).

a little blue smoke once in a while when cold start, but stops when engine warms up, figure maybe valve seals

Re: seafoam?

I understand there always gonna be carbon in tail pipe, but it shouldnt blow out of tail pipe and leave carbon on drive way and if you back up to within a foot of wall it leaves carbon on wall on cold start up..

If it is sooty water that blows out, it could be normal.

An engine would be running rich while it is cold (that is normal until engine is fully warmed up), that could contribute to carbon you see.

If you rev up the cold engine you can probably see black smoke. Still normal.

So far these seem like typical things an engine can do.
Especially an older engine/older car.

Maybe your catalytic converter is nonexistent?
Does your car have to pass an emissions test where you live?

The bottom section of the garage door in my bay at work sometimes gets covered in soot. I try to clean it off a couple times a year.

Re: seafoam?

Try this link and decide for yourself if seafoam is the right thing for your car. In my opinion ChrisFix does good videos and they are reasonably objective.

Either way let us know how it turned out for you. All the best.
