I just bought it and tried to smog it and failed. i didnt get a print out because the guy didnt want to charge me. i have no check engine light on. Any suggestions? i just drove it from AZ. to CA. on less than a tank of gas 388 miles. It misses a little on idle otherwise runs great

You should get your OBD1 scanned for free at an auto parts store like Autozone. If you're lucky, it's just a bad downstream 02 sensor. At worst, your catalytic converter is on its way out.

doesnt the check engine light have to be on for there to be codes ? i checked timing was fine bought cap, rotor, plugs, air filter. i read somewhere about using propane for vacuum leaks and found almost all my lines were leaking. replaced them. now idle is low like 450 rmp. i disconnected the iac and tried to adjust idle and it does nothing. help

Not necessarily. Sometimes it shows up after a few cycles. I mean, you can keep firing the parts cannon at it or you can get the computer checked out for free in case it's something simple. Your call.
