95 Civic Timing Issue
95 Civic Timing Issue
I've been having this great deal of trouble lately, and I'm almost positive it is timing related. When starting from cold, the engine runs just fine. But into my trip, I noticed that my engine was missing. At first, it would just skip a beat every couple of minutes, more frequently on acceleration. One night, it was warmed up and idling outside, and it was sputtering and throwing out a big white cloud behind it. Obviously, my main thought at that point was the head gasket, which I am in the process of replacing. However, as I was removing my timing belt, I noticed something that seemed off to me. I got my camshaft set to it's TDC point, but when I looked down the sights at my crank pulley, the white TDC mark was not in-line. Does this mean that my cam timing is off by a tooth?
That is my best guess at this point, because I've played with my distributor just about every weekend with the timing light to get it timed right (bought a new distributor in November, didn't have any timing marks on it), and it just starts missing again. Any other thoughts/ideas/suggestions?
