My 93 Del Sol runs high temp on gauge when running up mountain pass. I stop look at cooling fan and its not running. I turn AC on and cooling fan wasn't running. I thought cooling fan ran when the condenser fan ran. Whats up with this cooling fan system?

Test to see if the fan is still working, send power directly to the fan.

Ok I've done that and it runs. I had the temp gauge go up again sitting at idle with AC on. I parked and opened the hood and just as the temp gauge went to the top white line the fan kicked on. I have never seen the temp gauge get so high. Car has 130,000 miles on it and never had any other issues. Any idea what would cause the increase in temp?

You don't know that the gauge is accurate. It could be lying.
