Intermittent Stall/stumble
Intermittent Stall/stumble
So segwaying from my "got me stumpe" (screwed the spelling yup) thread I am on my final part of the puzzle.
I have a random stalling issue and its pissing me off.
Thought it would be solved with the tps and some lines replaced, it helped and the engine doesnt die like before but the hesitation or stumble is still popping up.
I have a spare throttle body with a MAP sensor, but cant get it off? offer ideas if ya got them. So I can pop that in to see if it helps. I havent any clue though what is behind the near stalls. No consistency with warming up or being cold when it happens. I do have a speed sensor code(ABS code 4 sub code 4) but never heard of that causing the problem I have.
Any ideas are awesome. I wanna punch the thing when it gets pissy like this

Re: Intermittent Stall/stumble
About 80% of the time, intermittent and random starting or idling problems with no rhyme or reason point to the main relay. It's the achilles heel of the Civic. Pop the thing out and look at it. It only takes like 5 minutes to get out (if it's a 92-95 model, it's to the left and slightly up from the under-dash fuse box on the driver's side). Just take a 10mm box wrench, loosen the bolt holding it on, disconnect the wire connector, and then remove the plastic cover. The next thing you want to do is examine the solder joints... closely. A magnifying glass is helpful sometimes. They tend to get old and crack over time. Specifically, look for solder joints with the "ring of death" as I like to call it. Here's a pic showing what I'm talking about. The joint on the left is good. The one on the right is cracked and will create an intermittent connection.

If you find any cracked or partially cracked joints, resolder them with rosin core solder (do NOT use acid core solder for electronics). Hell, if you want to head off any problems down the road, you can just go ahead and resolder all the joints on the board while you've got the thing out. It's just good preventative maintenance.

Re: Intermittent Stall/stumble
It's about 6 months old but Ill take a look. The stumble happens around the same place or time if i hammer the gas. Became less pronounced with the replacement of the map and tps. But, alas still there. Will check the stupid main tomorrow. Amazing what that part will do some times.
Re: Intermittent Stall/stumble
Ill check the relay soon. Doubting it though. Wondering if its my fuel filter since it is idling very low until warm and then it seldom stumbles on the road. Fuel pump is newer so i doubt that. Only code i even have is an abs speed sensor
Re: Intermittent Stall/stumble
Main relay is a negative. Thank god. I paid for that and a fuel pump in january, sure as hell should be ok haha.
I did some more throttle cleaning, seemed to kinda sorta hold off the issues. ABS light still comes on and seems the stumble is more pronounced then. I got a new sensor order, only 10 bucks, so we shall see if that helps. Gonna be pulling the throttle body for a strong cleaning soon too to ensure its not just gunked crap making issues.

I have the same exact issue. replaced plugs n wires, fuel filter (which was nasty as hell), cap n rotor, new throttle body. next thing on my list was to replace the tps but i see that had gotten you nowhere. ill be checking the main relay soon.. but question mrdobin, when you punch it from idle, does it studder like that too but then revs fine?
