Got Me Stumpe

So I went and picked up a replacement throttle body from the yard this morning. Cleaned it up checked it yada yada. Come to find out its not an auto its for a manual (noticed the single slot for the throttle cable but not tranny cable). Pulled the cable wheel and put my old one on the new throttle body.

Started it up, idles like hell and shortly after dies. Same result after 5 tries.
I was doing some digging around online and it appears the throttle body from auto to manual has differences in the ivac?. Little fuzzy on that.

Looking to see if I can use the manual throttle if modified, if not I am gonna return it since my throttle sensor is in the mail right now as it is.

Thanks in advance all

Re: Got Me Stumpe

So the update.

I was giving it a go with burping the coolant, dont feel like checking idle control or throttle tonight, and when i was finishing i decided to pull the plug on the TPS. The jumping rpms stopped and the engine idled around 2000. I assume if it were air in the system then it would have kept freaking out. But given the TPS being unplugged and the problem more or less stopping.... I think I was correct in buying a new sensor?. Thoughts?

Re: Got Me Stumpe

So welcome back if your tuning in again.

Update -
I did some poking around with the carb cleaner and bingo, gasket gone on the throttle body. So ends the debate on the crazy idle causes. The other problem was also discovered as a result with certainty I think. Pull the plug on the TPS when it was off(the car), started it up and wah bam! no coughing or bogus behavior from the engine minus the high idle thanks to the gasket.

I get to add the complete lack of gasket to the long list of fails by the previous owner. Among which were incorrect timing, spark plugs gapped nearly 200% over, a poor distro, wrong muffler system(used a dx set), amongst other things. I love this!(insert extreme dead pan face here).

Update more tomorrow when I get the parts put in.

Re: Got Me Stumpe

the torque converter on an auto must put a different load on the engine that is why they are different.

Re: Got Me Stumpe

Installed the new TPS that arrived today.
FYI for you all, if youre seriously considering a new throttle body before a TPS off ebay, skip it. Its 10 bucks and well worth it if you end up right. Takes a little patience to hack the old one off right but worth the time and effort.
So the TPS is in, the acceleration issues and studders are eliminated. Mild cough random times with i hit the gas in a deceleration but I think I can credit that to the bad gasket. Idles high (1200-1500) tops when in gear and bobs since there is some air in the line still it seams, but will update once more when I put the new gasket it. Runs like a champ when i spray the carb cleaner at the bad gasket spot so should be golden tomorrow night.

Cheers all

Re: Got Me Stumpe

Got the new throttle body gasket and popped it in. All issues gone. Mild stutter when I am intentionally throwing the pedal down at random times but will figure that out later.
I think the gasket must have been letting air into the system based on where the crack in it was and thus the bubbles randomly showing in my coolant during burps. Replaced hoses entirely around the throttle too for safe measure. No more bubbles.

Hope this helps anyone struggling with throttle issues, coolant air bubbles, etc.

Cheers
