92 civic overheating at idle Please help

Hi I have a 92 civic today I was leaving work I looked at the temp gauge and it was a little hot but when I hit the gas it cool down right away I checked the fluid level it seems that the car filled the over flow jug all the way up. So instead of drawing fluid from the over flow it was backwards the fan does come on I'm thinking maybe the water pump went bad but I'm not sure thank you

First, let your car cool off for a few hrs, then check your radiator to see if it needs coolant. If it does, then start cheap and replace your thermostat. They tend to stick when they go bad, causing your car to overheat at idle, then cool back down when your moving. Pick one up at your local auto shop.

Ok let it cool down then I went out and checked the coolant level it was a little low in the radiator So I filled and let the car run with the cap off for a while it bubble a lot then stopped I saw the level drop when the fan cuts on so the thermostat is opening then when the fan cuts off the fluid level comes back up and it's not over heating now I took the timing belt cover off the belt looks fairly new and there's no leaking comming from the water pump

Re: 92 civic overheating at idle Please help

I'm hoping maybe it was just an air pocket about 2 weeks ago I had a radiator hose pop I replaced the hose along with a heater core hose that was failing also then I filled the radiator up and let it run but it did not bubble to much so I just put the cap on I've been driving the car ever day since to and from work with no problem til today. But I've had the car running now for an hour and the temp is right were it should be should I just replace the thermostat just in case it did stick? Thank you

Drive it around, see if it heats up. If it is not over heating anymore, dont worry about replacing the thermostat. But if it does thats the first thing id replace.

I just ran to a few stores I've had it out for a while and I kept it running the whole time the temp stayed right where it should be. Thank you.
