'92 Civic Si - Cranks over, but won't start intermittently

Hello, I have one that is making me a little crazy. My son recently purchased A '92 Civic Si. It has a stock 1.6L. I noticed it was consuming coolent. Shortly there after, we had the head gasket replaced. At the same time, the mechanic was supposed to do a valve job, replace the timing belt and water pump. I also had him do a compression test on it when he was done and he said it was all good. That is just a little background and probably unrelated to my issue, although the thing is drinking oil now and does not seem to blow smoke or foul plugs. Anyway, the issue that is driving me nuts is an intermittent starting issue. It "usually" only happens after a trip and a very short stop. Example, starts fine in the morning, go to the gym and there for 1.5-2 hours. Leaving the gym, the car starts fine. On the way home, drive for 10 minutes, stop for a sandwich, back out in 10 minutes or less and it won't start. It will turn over, but won't even attempt to start. We find that waiting approximately 15-30 minutes more, it will usually start right up. There were 2 times when he was at work for 5 hours at night and after work, it did the same thing, so that is why I say "usually" about the short timeframe for cooling down or whatever is taking place. We can always hear the fuel pump come on every time and get pressure up and it cranks away, but just won't start. Another strange thing is everytime we have had this happen, we have always been able to push start it. I would think a fuel or electical issue would not allow you to push start it, but I am obviously missing something. I replaced the fuel filter, just because I was not aware if it had ever been replaced and no help. I also did the main relay, although I was not really thinking it would fix the issue as it was not always hot out when this was happening. It also did not help. I then replaced the disrtibutor and we thought we had the fix. Prior to the distributor replacement, the issue was becoming more frequent. I could actually make it happen by just letting it idle for 10-20 minutes, shut it off and try to start it and most of the time, we had the failure. After the replacement, we tried all the same things that we did prior to make it fail and it would start right up. Now after a week and a half of no issues (it was happening daily prior), we had the issue again on his way back from the gym. After waiting for about a half hour, it fired right up immediately and he drove it home with no issues. So, I thought I had it solved with the distributor replacement and it came back to haunt me. Is there anything that could be causing damage to the coil or distibutor internals. This was a used working Honda distributor by the way. I felt better going with a Honda distributor that I knew worked over a rebuilt or off brand. If anyone has any idea's, I am willing to listen to anything. I thought I had it, but it appears I was incorrect. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
