fuel delivery problem need help now

ok heres the deal. got an 89 hb dx canadian model d15b2 converted to mpfi. ran great until one day on the way to work it shut off and wouldnt even turn over. i replaced the starter and fixed that problem it was fried. then it wouldnt start still. fuel pressure gauge shows 35lb of pressure, but wouldnt start. i checked for codes on the ecu... solid red light. so i just replaced it with a pm6 out of an 88 crx si and now no light at all. no pwer to fuel pump nothing. it will still turn over all the fuses are good and the main relay clicks when you turn the key so i think its good too. before i replace the fuel pump does anyone think it could still be the main relay even when its clicking like its suppose to?

When you turn the key untill last rotation before starting do you hear the fuel pump turn on and pump for a couple seconds then shutoff?....kinda like a short bzzzzzzz.
There is another quick way to find out as well----> by spraying starter fluid(or a bit of gasoline if easier) in the tube going to the throttle body.... if it starts right up for a few seconds- you know fuel pump is not functioning.

no the fuel pump doesnt kick on but if the main relay was bad it would prevent that as well. and saturday i sprayed staring fluid on the intake and yes it started right up then burned it off and shut back off. but when i did the same yesterday it wouldnt even start with the starting fluid.

Fuel pumps can give signals they are going out....random stuttering is one sign. Working sometimes and not others is another sign... Also when spraying strting fluid or gasoline in the intake-- you can flood your plugs out and she'll not start for a while then either... Speaking of---whens the last time your plugs where replaced? If you haven't yet-- fuel filter is something to replace so its not making the (new, or current) pump work harder and possibly burn out...
I'm still leaning on fuel pump replacement, you should hear it pump for a couple seconds when turning key like described. Only other thing is to get your to your pump and check the ground and power to it... Another side not: SEAFOAM helps deture developing problems with seals and gunk build up through out the entire system.

Re: fuel delivery problem need help now

im not sure when they were changed. ive only had the car for about 2 weeks. ive taken them out and they still look good and im getting plenty of spark through them. and that was my thing, that the car ran perfect, no sputtering no bogging nothing until it just died that day when the starter went out. thats y i was wondering if it was possibly the main relay because there was no symptoms of an even weak fuel pump until that day. and with the ecu going out i didnt know if maybe the main relay went too. i am probably going to go ahead and replace the pump anyways. and yes i would defiantely replace the filter along with it. thanks for the help.
