Window Tint Removal

<hr style="color:#CEE6EE; background-color:#CEE6EE" size="1"> Help!!!

I've got a '93 HB with California legal 20% privacy windows. I've been driving it for several years and, even at night, the tint is not too dark for safedriving but here in Massachusetts the law is 35%.

I looking for any tips on removing the tint film. The price I've been given for having the film removed is $18/ft on the side windows and $36/ft for the rear. From that I guess that there is no quick solution but I'm hoping that there are some suggestions that will make the job easier enough to save me some cash.

TIA for any help!

Re: Window Tint Removal

Depends on how they were installed...They should just peel off pretty easily if soapy water was used...
If it was installed other ways/glue then a flat razor and some degreaser with lots of your time

Re: Window Tint Removal

Use a heat gun on low and slowly peel it back.

*Be very careful not to melt the tint.

*Be especially careful not to pull the painted lines off the hatch glass. Those are for defroster and/or your radio antenna.

Harbor freight has a really decent 2-speed heatgun for like $10

Re: Window Tint Removal

it sucks. usually the glue gets left behind and if it doesnt, you could peel defrost lines up with it. i did my rear windshield and it was a pita. had to scrub the glue for hours and even after using glass stripper to the point where all the physical glue came out, i could still see marks in the glass etched in over time that wouldnt come out. its not that noticable but still there and doesnt rub out.
